Does she live with you in Hawaii? I might have to take a trip down there if that's the case.:p

Reported what? I've never seen anything in the rules about not being able to use censored curse words.

Chill out man. Don't take everything so personally.

Is it against the rules for me to call myself an F-tard? Because I really am an F-tard sometimes.

Hey guys; I've been talking about it for ages, but I think it's finally time to upgrade to an external amp just to see what all the rage is about.

Of course, I've seen the legions of people supporting Emotiva, but some of the bigger names here on the forums seem to not approve; this disapproval ranging from indifference to outright hostility.

I am asking for those that DO NOT LIKE EMOTIVA, to chime in as to the reasons they think other amps are better, and similarly, to suggest other amps. I am primarily looking for a five channel and possibly another two channel amplifier for 70% HT / 20% games (PSS3) and 10% music.

I have been looking at Adcom, been reading reviews and it seems that the GFA-5500 (2ch) and the GFA-7500 are something I might look into. (Possibly bi-amping the front channels with the 7500, if I only got that one.) These will in all likelihood be powering CSi5, RTi10s, and a pair of TC80i's.

As you might be able to tell, I've been contemplating getting an Emotiva for some time, but I'm not convinced dropping money on an external amplifier is a good idea, unless I'm sure the outcome is worth the money.

Finally, my intention with this thread is not to discredit or disparge Emotiva, or its fans, but instead to gain insight as to why those who DO dislike Emotiva to step forward.

I have seen this (Ricardo's Emotiva story)

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78497&highlight=emotiva+sucks

but stopped reading after I saw that it had 1,200 replies.

    John,
You said you want to upgrade to an external amp. So upgrade and buy yourself a good amp not a Emotiva. They may not be bad but they are not really what you want and you probably know that. You want a high current amp like a Rotel or Adcom and you won't be disappointed. With the Emotiva you will always wonder if you should have gone for a higher quality amp for higher performance, we all do. Just do it right the first time and you won't regret it. And if you have the money to spend there are plenty of excellent options to choose from.

Just have a Club Polk Moderator check who set the tags and it would be easy. When that is determined, I expect to see some apologies from the self-righteous "Sherlock Holmes" of this thread.

Now I set one tag namely "emotiva". I hope that isn't wrong.

Did I say you were the coward who added a stupid tag? Nope but now you got me thinking maybe you did and you know it can't be traced.

You only know me from my pointless posts here. When I'm not "making the lights come on" or helping others behind the scenes here. I help take care of my X-wifes children in her classroom. Every student from severe-profound up to mild Autism, CP and learning disabilty. I got my thick skin by being with these children. They have, on occasion, told me some of the funniest challenged jokes ever.
Don't try to be a shield from the world to your nephew. Just see what he can bring to your life. He's a person, just like you and me.
