Very brief impressions:
1) Video transfer - TOP NOTCH - blew me away, 11/10, swore it was HD.
2) Audio - DTS soundtrack SPECTACULAR. Detail, surround use, and bass. Did I say BASS? This DVD has so much near-subsonic bass it immediately rises to the level of "subwoofer classic demo". I'm not talking about typical 35 Hz explosion stuff - I'm talking 18-22 Hz ULTRA deep visceral bass that you can't always reliably hear, but is so strong it pressurizes your ears, rattles **** in the room, and blurs the image on the HDTV. AMAZING. If you don't have a reference sub, you might be asking yourself if this movie has any bass at all - it's THAT deep.
3) I thought the movie was great for its genre - at least as good as Spiderman, if not better. Quite enjoyable.
This is a reference quality disc for HT - VERY impressive.

i didnt really like the movie, again i was dragged to this one by my girlfriend because ben affleck was in it. but i have no problem with watching a horrible movie with a nice soundtrack, i find myself watching die another day quite often even tho the movie is one of the worst james bonds ever made.
if it really sounds that good then im gonna find a way to get it, or maybe rent it from netflix and then burn me a copy
but shhhh i didnt say that -
i got the dd/ solaris combo also got the american pie/2 withe the under the crust dvd extras. and the mail in rebates for when i go see pie wedding
-
I was a little disappointed with Daredevil. My main problem was this:
A lot of effort was made to try and show DD as a human, who can feel pain, and has everyday human problems/limitations.
Then, later on, they have him doing some insane, totally impossible stuff. (Like when he jumped about 50 feet straight up)
You can't have it both ways.
I liked the movie, just thought that it could have been done better; especially with a different producer. -
Who cares how bad or good the movie is! All that matters is Jennifer Garner is smokin hot!
Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
Sure, the movie had inconsistencies and believability issues, but hell, it's a comic book movie. Suspension of disbelief comes with the territory.
Jennifer Garner is eye candy supreme, I had to bite my hand at her first appearance.
And I'm tellin' everyone out there who has a high quality player and high def imaging capabilities, this is a REFERENCE quality video transfer. Color levels are warm a natural, detail is magnificent with no edge enhancement, black levels are deep without being overbearing, whites are bright like the sun, and there is not a hint of grain or noise anywhere. Wow, wow, wow. I'd like anyone else's impression of this DVD video, because I think it's absolutely outstanding.
And the bass TROLLS deeper than sin - as deep or deeper than any DVD I own; there is a boat load of subsonic and near subsonic signal content at VERY high amplitude. I don't think there is much bass at all in this movie ABOVE 30 Hz.

I can picture Dr., mid movie, running out of the room for the sound meter and setting up his testing gear....while his wife stares at him in suspended disbelief..."Honey! you just don't understand....OH MY GOD!"

I also bought it, hopefully watch it Friday nite. I am excited!

More like running into the bathroom to spank one off after Garner shows up in that outfit. Ho mama!"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Ron - I'd really like your impressions with your new FP rig and vented Tempest. You have a very critical eye for video quality and your new rig will be a discriminating test for this DVD. This transfer is actually better than "Below", my previous reference standard.

Watched last night, this movie indeed has the "Spiderman" quality, great for comic fans. The sound track is way too cool, video transfer is outstanding, plus the disc has the enhanced viewing mode. The extras on separate disc and other goodies are worth what you paying for ,plus Jenifer screen test and her works in pre-production and a lot more. Uncle Ben looks good and "Bull-eye" is one bad dule. Definitely a reference disc, no doubt. 8 out 10 is my score card, too bad, I don't own one, have to return the dental disc today.

First off, I have never read a single comic book issue so I don't know how the story compares.
A very enjoyable movie, glad I made the blind purchase. Darker then I thought it would be though. The story is standard for a first time comic book movie, just like Spider-Man and X-Men. I thought Ben did a great job as DD, he was able translate his inner-termoil very well. As for the rolls of Bullseye and King Pin, I thought there rolls were a bit too comedic and corny for the seriousness of DD and Elektra. Special effects were good, but could have been better. I was bummed to see Elektra get axed and was hoping to see a return towards the end of the film.
As for the dts track, hands down one of the best to date. Extremely full, very accurate to the on screen action and very enveloping. As for the bass, doc summed it up...I'm talking 18-22 Hz ULTRA deep visceral bass that you can't always reliably hear, but is so strong it pressurizes your ears, rattles **** in the room, and blurs the image on the HDTV.
Linda sat in a watched it with me so I had it no where near reference and with every punch from the boxing scenes it felt like I was getting hit, when Bullseye rang the church bell, my balls were ringing, it was awesome. Very tight, very low and very clean...excellent bass here. Half the bass I could not hear just feel which made me jump a few times as it came unexpectedly.
As for the transfer, frikken awesome as well. Very clean, sharp and detailed. For such a dark movie, it shined. Only one scene did I see a lot of video noise and that was of the air-plane's exterior just before Bullseye is seen sitting next to the old lady. Colors were decent, nothing overly vibrant, quite a few scenes with greenish tints which I did find somewhat distracting at times. Dark scenes had some great detail as well.
Over-all I give it 3.5 out of 5.
Peace Out~:DIf...

Yes, I noticed that immediately too, in fact it stuck out since the rest of the transfer was SO good looking. It was such a brief non-critical scene, I didn't care.
Glad you really liked the audio and video; it really made the movie much better. Sure the story had some flaws, but from a purely technical HT standpoint, what a knockout DVD. I'm looking forward to seeing it again. It is cooked pretty hot and I wasn't close to reference either - about -13 and I had the room shaking.

I told my wife you all were ranting about the movie and that if we had that Better sub,(ie:svs) we would be feeling alot more bass, I need one of the new colored PB1 SVS subs i do believe... I don't think it's really a matter of volume, since the 404 can play pretty loud. It's a matter of extension. The 404 has very little usable output in the 20-25 Hz region, which is where the vast majority of the DD bass lives. No matter how loud you crank it, you just won't hear/feel most of the bass in this movie. Don't bust the sub on our account. Then you won't be able to sell it on eBay and then you'll never be able to upgrade!

I'm actually just busting Ron's balls, I know the comic well...but honestly didn't know that they were killing her in the first movie.
Years ago, DD was one of the titles I collected, why I don't know, but I have about 125 of the volume 1, from 145-270 or so. Mainly the Frank Miller days which was the only time DD was really worth reading, was what I liked. Miller was who developed the Elektra saga, Kingpin and really made Bullseye cool. He molded the characters into more than just silly villians and created genuine storyline.
DD really wasn't that great of a comic book IMO.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I'm actually a fan of basic black on the PB1-ISD. It just helps it blend better and disappear.
Nothing wrong with the colors mind you, but I'll take black or a wood finish over a textured color finish. The black wood finish on the PB2-Ultra or the B4-Plus would look really mint along side Polk's black walnut finish.
That vague rumbling coming from the 404 is just the top portion of all the bass effects in DD, probably around 30 Hz or so. The real meat and potatoes is another 1/2 octave lower.
Dorok....Ron-P did have a "Spoilers Alert" in his post; he did his duty.
I was a huge Tomb of Dracula fan at one time, and still have almost the entire series in plastic. But I read many series, including DD, voraciously at the corner drugstore as a kid. I friggin' lived for comic books.

DR. Spec - Yea, I saw the note, just messing with him. I also went a little nutty with them, they were a kids life you know? I have about 6-7000 of them wrapped up and gaining change.

Vr3 - Lets hope they do a better job than that pathetic movie with Dolph Lungren. Frank Castle was a decent character, it will be tough to get over the previous movies, essential no relation to the comic book problem.
It could be Terminator like but with a human, and there should be lots of blood, sex and a NC-17 rating for me to like it

DD is only worth 2 out of 5 stars. Watched it yesterday and was disapointed. dts sound track was fine but the story was way too weak. Rent this one but do not buy it. For you comic book fans out there Bat Man was a 4 out of 5 with an excellent sound track by Danny Elfman and star acting performanc by Jack Nicholson as the villan. Go watch Spiderman it is better than DD.
DD is too bad because the acting is prety good. Not a bad performance by anyone. Just very poor writing.
My 2 cents.
