Actually, he is on the low side for someone trying to make a few bucks on a Polk R50/R30/R300 Frys purchase.....there is always at least 2 or 3 craigslist postings here in the bay area showing those speakers with their HUGE retail pricing from the Polk website.

Normally they offer them for around 300 bucks for the pair...so he is actually a hundred or so below the norm. ( The really funny part is when they show the proud clean undamaged sealed boxes in the craigslist ad...you can usually see the white Frys price sticker right in the photo :) )

I picked up a pair of R50's for my nephews surrounds at the Fremont Frys last year for 59.99 a piece...coming out to a whopping 119.98 for the pair.

Polk really should put a realistic retail website price on those if they are going to move those through Frys by the thousands at 119.98 a pair. The scammers...I mean sellers....ALWAYS link to the Polk website showing the 639.95 a pair price http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/recent/r50/ ....and I am sure a lot of unsuspecting people go for what is basically an online white van speaker scam. ( Not Polks fault in the least....just some people have found this vast difference in actual vs retail price and are exploiting it for monetary gain )

Kex said it perfectly, rethink your introduction...throw a fair price on those puppys...and stick around and become an active Polk member. You will learn a lot here....lots of good folks.

I was cruising craigslist for Polks this morning ( As usual ) and came across this :D

    This was interesting...

" These speaker sounds great, I have a pair of cherry R50 in my living room for 3 years, they sounds like a pro, even better than the $2000+ flagship speakers, such as LSI25 or LSI15.. "

That should kickstart your threads here on the forum ....nobody here thinks highly of the LSI series either ;)

Wow...I'm really loving the extra special Polkie deal he's offering here.

Better than the LSi15/25? I've never heard the R50's before...but I don't need to hear them to know that they don't sound better, or even as good as the LSi series towers.

Make your price a little more realistic instead of trying to rip someone off.

I also noticed that you offer "free shipping for pickup". What does that mean? You're not going to charge any additional fees if someone picks them? Wow...how considerate of you.

Not here, buddy. The FM is a place to offer great gear that you want to pass on at Club Polk friendly pricing. Most everyone who posts items for sale here offers members much deeper discounts than you can get on the street. If you want to make a buck, do it elsewhere. If you didn't pick up the vibe during your race to sell...now you know.

i paid my pair of R50 in 2006, $100 each.

Now Fry's dropped the price to $70 each, but you cannot get it at frys.com, they sold out.

Now the price is up again for $199.99 each at local Fry's store.

So, my price is still competitive and reasonable.

If you want it, get it before i return it to fry's.

How hard did you try? I was able to add them to my cart, select my shipping option and it asked for my credit card.

Return them - its the only way you will get rid of them for that price.

    i love you guys.
you don't mess around. you keep everyone on the straight and narrow.
it really is like a family here!
but i also admire a guy comming to the defacto authority on used polk gear pricing and asking more than the current retail pricing. i thought that is what craiglist was invented for, right?

i don't know what internet he is using, but my internet tells me that they are indeed still in stock at fry's and selling for just $69 each ($138 for a pair) until 4/23/2009 with free pickup.

    http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4005092

and speaking of incredible prices, has anyone noticed the deal at neweg for a pair of monitor 50's (aka m50) for just $199 including shipping to anywhere usa (and no tax coleclted to most states).

    christophermuto,

Those are cherry. The black ones are more expensive but go on sale occasionally for less than one they are being sold here. But I agree with everyone else here, these are priced way too high for what they are, even if they are black.

I would not be surprised if he tried to charge for pickup. I recently won an item on ebay, I email the guy asking if i can pick up the item he said sure, I would only have to pay half his asking price for shipping which happened to be $80. I told him i was not going to pay shipping for an item i was to pick up.
He said he could do that and that now i have to pay the full amount since he will not allow pickup anymore. I refused to give this thief/extortionist my home address for shipping since he refused to provide a shipping method. Ebay of course took his side saying shipping charges are not ebay's concern.

shipping charges are not of ebay's concern unless they are excessively high as a way to circumvent payment of ebay final value fees. you can report the sellers active auction (when relisted) for circumvention of fees and they will likely cancel it. when it costs them money you can bet it gets their attention.

that said, had you asked the seller before bidding if pickup was ok and free before then you would not have had to get into this with him. but after the fact it doesn't make sense for the seller to have fought you about it; he should have just say to consider the deal null and void since you didn't want to pay a pickup fee and you both could have avoided the negitive feedback (and he could get his fees refunded).

    yes.

$200 a pair, he is very happy. Because he cannot buy it from Frys.com, they only sell Cherry, while he want black, and frys.com will charge him $52 shipping plus Tax. that will be more expensive.
