Hi everyone,
I own a nice pair of vintage Polk Audio's Monitor 10's Series 2. I bought these brand new in 1992. Although they are wider than the new Polk Audio speakers on the market today they sound like the day I bought them. They have always been kept in a safe dry area of my house away from the kids.
My question to the room is how much new speaker technology have they developed to make me want to sell these on Craig's List? If I bought a new pair of shiny Polk Audio towers would I really be able to tell the difference in sound from these Monitor 10 Series 2? Has technology in speakers other than they now can make smaller ones sound better changed that much in the last 17 years?
In the end I want to be happy with what I have now. It is easy to walk the floor of an electronics shop and see the latest and greatest stuff. Bottom line I am in my late 40's now and I would like to get another 10 years out of these speakers. Maybe more.....I use them for music listening plus movies. Am I missing out on the new stuff or is it basically the old stuff packaged in different sized boxes these days?

There are too many speakers/technologies to cover,but in short,yes,polk offers alot for your money in the way of better sound than the 10's.Chances are,you have become accustomed to the sound of the 10's but let's face it,any speaker that old,or if you want to keep for another 10 years,will need some parts replaced/updated sooner or later.I think some LSI 9's,a DSW sub,and a cheap 2 channel amp would rock your world if compared to the 10's.Of coarse everything is relative to a budget,but in the end,Polks line up of speakers has something for everyone.HT SYSTEM-

OTOH, what is WRONG with what you have now? If you don't feel your setup is lacking, why change just for the sake of change? You can read this forum all day and pine for something latest and greatest, but will YOU really be able to hear the difference, in your listening room?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Unless..............................you have the funds and you think just trying things for the heck of it would be fun, then go for it.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I was blown away 17 years ago from my Polk Audio Monitor 10's as I am today. I have recently purchased a Polk Audio PSW111 along with a Definitive ProCenter 1000 Center. I am totally blown away by both of these purchases.

The PSW111 is a cool little subwoofer.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I totally agree with you! The Polk Audio PSW111 is one of the best subwoofers in the $300 price range that I found!! I was able to cash in on Circuit City misfortunes and bought this little puppy for $150! I put the PSW111 in the corner of my room and it has made all the difference in making this subwoofer dance. I absolutely love it!!
