I'm looking for a Monitor 5 or 5Jr late 80's or earlier 90's model for a center channel.
Ideally looking for one in black, but am also interested in pairs of any color.
email d4mans@attbi.com
thanks

Just an FYI... I'm pretty sure those are not shielded. We have a pair of 5jr+ and I added bucking mags many years ago to allow it to get closer to the TV.. but it still isn't like a real center.
Just wanted to let you know in case you hadn't thought about that. I'm currently working on shielding a center I made from unshielded Polk drivers. It is a challenge. -
Hey thanks, yes I have been thinking about it. I spoke w/Polk earlier and was told the bucking magnet will help about %80. I'm hoping it is not too bad and can place the speaker appropriately to work. It should hold me until my Plasma upgrade next year . .
Also, I have not found any center channel that is not mid range hyped and works well with my 7c's. I don't know why speaker makers are hyping the center channels, but I say it is lame. Films are not mixed with hyped centers, so they don't need it for the playback. -
What do you have for trade?

Depends what you've got and what your looking for.
email me directly and we can talk about it.

A 2 channel amp? -
Eric.. are you interested in building a center channel speaker??
I'm also running Monitor 7s as mains (7Cs). I use a pair of Monitor 5jr+ for surrounds, and I built a matching "Monitor" center speaker.
I used a Polk crossover from an 8TL, a 'new' SL2000, and two 6502 drivers. I am eventually going to buy two 6510s, which is what the crossover calls for, and the 6502s will go back to being my backup drivers for the four other Monitors.
ANYWAY.... I don't think I'm ever going to build a pair of speakers using the parts I have.. I'm going to stop with the single center. Don't even think I'd ever build a rear center.
Therefore, I have a crossover you can buy, if you're interested. You'd have to scrounge up the other parts... I may or may not have an option to help you get the two 6510s you'd need - I'd have to find out. And you'd have to get ahold of an old or new SL2000.
Anyway, just a thought. I've taken a break and haven't done ANY work on my center for about a month, and I need to finish the shielding work (buy bucking mags from PE). It works great, sounds great, although I had to rearrange my mains, sub and TV to get around the shielding for now.
You'd be in the same position regarding shielding with a DIY as you're going to be buying an unshielded Monitor 5.
