Been locked up with this bad boy all weekend. Wife's been working double shift's at our local hospital, kid's have been in and out, life is good. Picture me, unshaven, pizza box's, beer can's, everywhere, volume cranked. LOL, just kidding. But seriously, if your in the market for a new receiver, please consider this unit, IT'S FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Pat.
That sounds like me for the first week after I got my Monitor 7A's...lol...I actually fell asleep on the couch a couple nights while listening to music. I was in such a state of audio nirvana that I couldn't even stop to go to sleep...lol
Unfortunately that state of nirvana was temporary...I'm still happy with them, but looking forward to the next upgrade(external amplification) very much.
Good to hear you're happy with your purchase though Pat.:D I've been wanting to check out one of those Pio's for a while now...I've heard nothing but praise for them. The nirvana inducer-

And when that happens, do you think you're going to sell the Pioneer then? I read about the Emotiva pre/pro that's dues out. One thing about this is you can really take this to a whole new level but it starts to get very expensive. I'm just a waitress at a club right now. But I might have to start making some extra cash on the side with some of my customers if I keep wanting to upgrade.
Yes, makes perfect sense. I haven't even got a receiver yet and I'm thinking about "stepping up my game? I need to stay within my budget cause this stuff can quickly get out of hand and before you know it you're in debt up to your... well, you know.
I did ask about other speakers in that thread. Any thoughts on the PSB Image 6T's or the RT800i speakers? Would they justify the Marantz?
Ya know, I think I know just enough bout this stuff to be dangerous.
unfortunately i have not heard either of those speakers to really comment lol. I guess i just meant if your looking at inexpensive speakers dont get a high priced receiver (unless you really want the features). The biggest difference in sound will come from the speakers themselves, everything else is just fine tuning that experience
What speakers did your ex have? Did you like them? And are you looking to equal or exceed their quality?

Whoa!! Just picked this baby up at BB three days ago. The answer to my 2 channel quest! Had been running the Yamaha 663, but just wasnt happy how it processed 2 channel listening, loved it for HT. Got a great deal i thought at BB, retailing at $1699, i was able to haggle the price down to $1400, including a 4 year warranty. Pretty happy with that. But with all the audio options this thing offer's, i have never been more pleased for 2 channel, also hooked up to the Xpa-3, THIS THING ROCK'S.:D Still trying to fine tune, any "make sure's" i should do? I know i have the manual, the volume of info is quite frankly, "overwhelming". Appreciate any insider info from forum members on audio/video features. Thanks in advance.
Pat.
Does that Pioneer have the ICEPower Hybrid amp in it. Because those amps, developed first by another high end audio maker have supposedly solved most of the problems that have plagued Class D amps for quite some time. And they've been getting some rave reviews. If I'm not mistaken, the newest Rotels also have these amps? I had a 3rd generation Panasonic Class D at one point and as long as you didn't try to Max it out--at mid-levels it could hold its own with amps 3-4 times its price.

The SC-05/07/09's all have class D ICE amps. Which are good compared to the average internal amps of many receivers, although the 05/07 fail miserably while trying to power 4ohm speakers.Does that Pioneer have the ICEPower Hybrid amp in it. Well, I'm thinking bout all this and ya know, I don't have a Blu-ray player, I don't have speakers, and so I'm not sure as to how to proceed. Should I get speakers first? OK to buy used speakers? How do I know if I'm getting a good deal? No way for me to test this stuff since I don't have any components to hook them up to.
Like OP said, guys have preconceived notions. I show up to some dudes CL ad and he's gona be like "c'mon in baby." How do I know this? because I've already answered a few CL ads when I was looking for speakers over the weekend.
Not sure where I should go from here. Maybe I should just go up to wally world and buy what ever HTIB is on sale. This is hard. I want nice but unlike you guys, I don't have balls. Which means I know I'm not going to be taken seriously with this venture and so maybe I should just use my TV w/out a nice receiver and SS speakers. Or maybe I should hook up with some guy and let him tell me what to do....
LOL, the hell with all that!

Thanks for making me feel like I fit in bigred. and OP, I just jacked you again... LOL, feel good?

Stay away from a HTIB setup...you won't be anywhere near as happy with it as you would be going with separates.
If you have a 500 dollar budget for speakers, you should be able to setup something pretty nice.
Are you going for a 5.1 setup? Floor standing speakers or bookshelves? Do you want a subwoofer too?
I'll accompany you on one of those CL treks if need be.;)...lol
edit-If you wanted to go the bookshelf route...this would be a nice sounding system to fit your budget.
A pair of Polk Audio Monitor 40's for the front channels. 200 dollars.
A pair of Polk Monitor 30's for the surround channels. 90-100 dollars.
A Polk CS2 Center channel. 150 dollars.
A Polk PSW303 Subwoofer. 180 dollars.
That comes out to a little over 600...which is a little bit over your budget, but that's a nice entry level system that you'd probably be very happy with. The nirvana inducer-

5.1 is fine for now. Wait, I can use bookshelf speakers for this? I have a pair of those. kinda big bookshelf speakers though. I kinda like the looks of those slim tall floor standing speakers.comfortablycurt wrote: »I'll accompany you on one of those CL treks if need be.;)...lol
For real? I want a guy who really knows his stuff though. So I'd have to audition you first. You know, check out your subwoofer, see how much bottom end you have. And of course I'd want to measure how much power your amp puts out...

Yep...bookshelf speakers will work fine. I just edited my last post with a few recommendations on some. Floorstanding speakers can get a little bit more expensive than the bookshelf route, but I'm sure we could find some floorstanders that would fit the budget as well. The Monitor 50's are nice floor standing speakers, and only cost around 250 dollars or so.For real? I want a guy who really knows his stuff though. So I'd have to audition you first. Well...I'm in Dixon,IL...which is roughly 400 or so miles from Detroit...if you wanted to make the drive though, I can assure you my amp puts out enough power to satisfy.;)The nirvana inducer-

Really, do you have one of these? Take those AH reviews with a grain of salt, they are so damn biased it's not even funny. Take real owner reviews for example, check out the owners thread at AVS. -
Well some of Kid Rocks songs have some rap but I still think he rocks. By the way, I'm 20. Good to know you're old enough to buy. Liquors quickr baby.

Yeah...I like Kid Rock. I don't listen to him a whole lot...but he has some really good songs. They do have some rap elements in them, but it's not really in a bad way. I really like that newer song of his, "All Summer Long" that's set to the music from Sweet Home Alabama...it's just a great "feel good" kinda song, which seems to be kinda rare anymore.
