Jeff, sorry to hear of your troubles. As others have said take care of your eyes first and then see what your options are when the time is right. Germany isn't going anywhere, and there are numerous flights that will get you there.
Things sure have changed a lot in 30 years. They had just started the fat boy program (no offense to anyone, just what we called it) when I got out. Then as I understand from others it was something about not advancing past E5 in 7 years, then a crack down on smokers. The part I don't get, in all the force reductions that have taken place over the years, is that it generated a huge amount of contract positions, which at some of the salaries I've seen I can't see how it is saving DOD anything.

Anyway best of luck with things, and thanks for your service.

Talk to Troy and see what you can do and PLEASE...think about my 'advice' and see if you can swing OUT of military Dr.s and Hospitals and get thee to a University Research Hospital..that has state of the art equipment and professionals who are doing cutting edge research on your thinning cornea (hereditary) condition and have done the procedure 100s of times!! I know, I've been there with my mother...who is now gone. We took her to the U. of Penn Hospital to remove a rather large benign brain tumor. The Surgery was top notch, the after care great. Her Doctor, one of the BEST in the field! Don't risk your eyes on anything less than the 'best'!!

Thanks again for the well wishes guys, I will be in contact with Troy via E-mail soon. Don't worry C, no Military Dr. will be within 100 miles of me when I go under the knife, lol. The guy who is doing my surgery is the best in the state of Wa and one of the best in the nation. He has perfected the surgery I am going to have, and has even made the recovery process shorter by making changes to the way it used to be done. Thanks Russ, that's all I need right now. When you coming up for a visit? Tax free booze and cigarettes on base, lol.
