I first heard this on the radio through the 2 channel rig and thought my DefTechs were blown. It's like 50% distortion!

It appears that this is listenable on computer speakers but on a 2ch rig it's all distorted garbage... at least that's what I am hearing. Maybe the Onkyo's tuner doesn't deal well with massive clipping, or better speakers show the flaws in the recording.

I'm hearing lots of clipping. Reminds me of Metallica's "Death Magnetic."

Probably not. But as long as the amplifier isn't driven into clipping, it should be ok.

Maybe some here should try this on their 2 channel rigs? Computer speakers don't really show the distortion, nor does my 19" Dell LCD soundbar.

Sounds like crap. Nothing like the original song.

eh? Both the original song and this YouTube video have the distortion.

I have this going from the hp Digital Entertainment Center z560 --> Optical Out --> Onkyo.

I'm too scared to hit play.... is the 'g' pronounced hard like Lady CaCa?

Just wanted to see what rigs are not affected by the distortion (apparently computer speakers and iPod earbuds don't show it)... I guess it's a case of better speakers = shows the flaws more profoundly in the recording.

I don't like that mix . For those of you that won't give that album a chance well your missing out. It's not everybodys cup of tea, hell a couple of months ago it wasn't my cup of tea. But I thought I would give it a shot and now it's in my rotation every week.

So the album version is not dynamically compressed? I only heard it on the FM - haven't listened to any pop on XM lately...

I have no frame of reference as I do not have a digital copy, but it seems th volume needs to be turned down a bit to keep the drivers from popping on the SDA's.

I don't have the CD, but apparently the vinyl version has the same distortion. Just from a few user reviews:

"Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster sounds like total crap! It is NOT music, it is PURE NOISE!! "

"The sound is god awful, very over amped, (recording level set WAY too high) resulting in distortion, and nothing but distorted thumping BASS"

    "Poor music quality"

Typical modern recording. To be avoided. Next artist already.
This one's had her 15 minutes.

Agreed, which seems to work out to 13 minutes too many. Yuk.
