Great deal. The d1200 is a great amp. Very similar to the NAD 2200PE.

Proton was one of the original OEM manufacturers for NAD. Proton took NADs designs and tweaked them and sold them as their own. So, the early 80's stuff is very similar. I think this annoyed NAD and they parted ways in the late 80's when NAD found a Japanese OEM to make their stuff. Many people believe that the Proton gear is actually better than NAD because they used somewhat better components inside. Overall, its pretty good stuff. I was looking for a Proton D940 receiver for quite some time, but I ended up getting my NAD 7175PE instead.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Not really now, just never new they really existed. They look cool and just wanted to learn a little more about them. The design looks great.

Onkyo OEM'd for NAD in the late 80s and early 90s. Their components actually look quite similar during this period of time. I don't think Onkyo OEM for anyone after that.

Hey Hogsfly, if you ever want to sell that Proton P1100 Preamp let me know. I have been trying to find one or even a higher model number but they are few and far between. Anybody that has one or knows someone that does let me know. Thanks everybody.

The Proton d1200 uses eight (8) 3/4" 7V fuse lamps for the meters.

LED replacement bulbs can be purchased (in green or blue) by contacting:

    Don Haywood
    deh12110@yahoo.com

Bulbs are guaranteed for life and are made for the Proton D1200.

Don is very honest. I purchased from him on 2 occassions and had no trouble. You can trust him.

The original bulbs for the D-1200 are green. You will need 8 replacement bulbs for each amplifier. 4 per meter.

I use a Proton AA-1150 in my main system. It is one of the most musical amps I've ever heard. A local tech has several of the D-1200 amps in his system and has told me that he thinks the AA-1150 is more musical than the D-1200. I've attached a review by Julian Hirsch from the June, 1988 issue of Stereo Review. Mr. Hirsch raves about the AA-1150.

I also have a Proton AP-1000 preamp that I use in another system.

Please could someone send a PDF of the PROTON AA-1150 amplifier product manual. Anything and everything you may have on it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you so much!

Great Amps...I had a pair of D1200 Amps, purchased 1985. Bridgeable and nice to look at with those 2 ea watt meters lite up.
They could really handle low imp, once in a while the relays would shut em down. but great Amps. Both got stolen while we had stuff in a storage space while we moved from Tracy, Ca to Reno. All my audio gear was gone. Very Sad Day for sure. Enjoy you Proton Gear, Very well made.

    Sorry for your loss dscheer,

If your looking for good one, of the best sounding solid state amp, I recommend this AA-1150. A friend and I looked into something in it's today quality and found prices between $700-$800 and they weren't even dual mono amps. I did test it with a sign wave generate long time ago, it's 50WPC RMS all right. Power would drop off after driven outputs over the 50WPC, after a few seconds it always recovered shortly after tuning down the volume. Like the review test show, the caps will discharge under continues over 50WPC RMS Power and shortly recharge when amp is turned down. But in music mode they do not completely discharge, more like an amp with 200+WPC, and continues dynamics around 400+WPC @ 4ohms. I don't know about the sound quality of Proton's Preamp, I drive mine with a Marantz derived tube preamp I bought new from Parts Express in the 90's, very good match. Not to soft like some all tube systems, and a little warmer than the best of sold state preamps.

I've never seen an owner's manual for the AA-1150, so I don't know if it includes a schematic. You might be better off with a service manual if you can find one. Good luck with your quest.
