I recently sent Tonyr1 a TECHNICS SL-QX 300 and this is the problem he is having with it in his own words, I took the 3 transport screws out and put the platter on. platter turns but the tonearm won't move over to the record. the tonearm clamp is not on and I don't see the transport protector for the tonearm on there.
when I try the autostart the arm lifts up, moves slightly and just sits there. any ideas what could be wrong and or how to solve this issue?

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all

Maybe a worn belt. The stylus Arm has a rubber belt connected to a motor that moves the arm. They stretch out or break over time.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!
The SRT SEISMIC System:
Four main satellite speakers, six powered subs, two dedicated for LFE channel, two center speakers for over/under screen placement and three Control Centers. Amaze your friends, terrorize your neighbors, seize the audio bragging rights for your state. Go ahead, buy it; you only go around once. -
Just wanted to add that I can't move the tonearm over the record manually either. thanks for the quick response snow!:)

Sometimes there are gears involved. Check underneath and see if that is the case. If so they just might need to me manually rotated to unjam them.

thanks, I will try that tonite after work.

There was couple of suggestions in the for sale thread also, not sure if you seen them Tony. If you want to take this to a repair tech I will reimburse you whatever it costs up to the $ value of what you sent for this or simply reimburse you the entire amount including shipping any time you want if you cant get this TT to work properly.
When I got this TT I didnt test it out personally so I cant say 100% for sure if it worked properly when sent, I assumed that it would simply because when I got this gear everything else in the sale worked perfectly and was kept in mint condition.

I'm sure it's something minor. just got home and I'm going to look inside and see what's up. If I don't see anything obvious I will have it checked out.

I was a little bummed out last nite, but I just got it working. Took it apart and played with the gears and linkages under the tonearm until it would move. I don't know what I did but it is working! LOL The cueing thing does'nt work now but I will worry about that later. Just played ZZ Top Tres Hombres.....SWEET! Thanks Snow!
And thanks to the others for your suggestions.

Joe and Esavision and Christophermuto had all the ideas but im glad you can at least listen to records now even if the auto cue function isnt working properly. The fact still remains that you paid for a fully working TT not one that only partially works if you cant get the auto cue function working take it to a repair shop and as mentioned earlier I will reimburse you any costs up to the $ spent or if it is going to cost more than that to get it working properly I will simply send you back all your money so you can purchase another table that is working properly. Let me know what you want

Tony I'm so glad it is working and you are enjoying the sweet sounds of vinyl. The cueing problem might simply be the need to adjust or clean the gear underneath the tonearm. Give it a shot.
Have fun.
