Need Help Wiring Lsi 9's w/ HT - Please help

I just hooked up my Lsi 9's w/ a B&K ST2140 that I purchased.
I'm using the Lsi 9's for music only, however can I use the Main Out #2 on my Belles Pre with HT bypass? It seems that my Onkyo is controlling the volume. The Belles volume is not active. I have my emotiva xpa2 wired through Main Out #1 on the Belles that works fine for Bypass. I just want to make sure i'm actually using the Belles to control the B&K rather than the Onkyo acting as the Pre. Perhaps I'm just misunderstanding the entire concept?

Do I need a separate stand alone Preamp for this? Should I just take the Belles out of the emotiva equation? Also will I need a 2nd DAC in order to run both?

Thanks

If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like you may have things wired up wrong.

I take it you're wanting to listen to 2 channel music, using the Belles pre to control volume, and use the HT bypass function with your Onkyo for watching movies.

Your 2 channel source(cd player/dvd player/turntable etc.) should be connected directly to your 2 channel pre over it's l/r analog outputs. For 2 channel listening, the Onkyo will be completely out of the equation, and won't even need to be turned on. Volume will be controlled by the 2 channel pre.

Then you'd want to connect your DVD players digital output(coax/optical/HDMI) directly to your AVR. When you want to watch a movie, set your 2 channel pre for HT bypass, and it will simply act as a pass through for the signal from your Onkyo. The Onkyo will then be controlling the volume.

Thanks Curt, However I'm currently running my tv audio from the tv optical out to my external DAC then to the Onkyo. My computer based music source is also routed through the external DAC. My Onkyo avr, Belles pre, emotiva amps (2) and RTI speakers are currently wired for both 2-channel and HT w/ bypass.

I guess what I'm asking is it possible to keep this current set up AND use the Belles pre to control the audio source from my DAC to my B&K AMP AND LSI Speakers?
Do I need a 2nd preamp and DAC?

I guess my question is really can I send my DAC

    Ok...I think I see what you're saying.

You want to be able to use your DAC to watch TV, through the Onkyo, I'm assuming.

And you also want to be able to use your DAC for 2 channel listening, through the Belles.

Unless your DAC has two pairs of outputs...I don't see a way that it could work.

The only solution I can think of, would be to connect your DAC directly to the Belles, and then connect your TV's optical out directly to an optical input on your Onkyo.

For watching TV, the Onkyo's internal DAC's should be more than sufficient.
