New theater set up

Hi all, I'm new here and was looking for some help. I am finishing my basement and thought it would be nice to do a home theater. My cousin gave me a RM 7500 set of speaker for it. I would like to put all of the wires in prior to finishing the sheet rock. Can anyone tell me what I should use. I plan on using a projector for the theater. I am also looking for a suggestion for what type of receiver I should use? any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey jaybird, welcome to Club Polk. A few answers for ya regarding the speaker wire. There is a link below to Monoprice for all their speaker wires, and anything rated CL2 is what you need for in-wall installation. They have lots to chose from, but I would recommend 12 or 14AWG. The RM7500 is a pretty good HTIB and is pretty easy to drive so as far as AVR's are concerned look into Onkyo, Denon, HK, Pioneer, just to name a few. You don't nee any top of the line flagship models, but keep in mind you may outgrow the 7500 and want floorstanders soon enough, so get something that is fairly "future proof" As for Onkyo's look into the TX SR7XX series or higher, since they will have pre outs for adding an external amp down the road. Not something you will need with the 7500, but like I said, if you do decide to upgrade, it will be one less thing you have to get. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks, for the advise. what should I use for the sub? Is regular speaker wire good, or should i use a "monster" cable?

The "M" word will start many a "discussions" around here, lol. Just get a subwoofer cable from the same website I recommended for the speaker wire, I would recommend getting a pretty long one so you can move the sub around and find the best spot in the room for it. I have a 25 footer, and it was well worth the extra few bucks for the added length.

Whatever you do, you might want to over wire yourself now so you don't have to open up the sheet rock again later. If deciding between 14 and 12 AWG, go 12. Maybe look into hdmi 1.4 cable etc. Run an in wall subwoofer cable (or even two sets, maybe you'll want more than one :)) to wherever you might want to place it if far from your rig (especially if you're putting your gear in an equipment closet).

Monoprice cables won't break the bank and you don't want a situation where you upgrade your speakers and electronics at some point and find your cables are the weakest link.

+1, better to be safe than sorry with in wall installations. They can be kinda tricky to "adjust" lol.
