my 2.3 one was clearer then the other but for me it turned out to be 2 tweeters that were going out on it.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

Thanks Ernie.
Just replaced all 6 with RDO's.
Good idea though. -
Holy cow! There looks to be a heck of alot more caps on there than my 1.2TLs XOs. I still say, "patience grasshopper." You might be just chasing your tail Ton.
-
I will totally agree with ya Joe but the thing is that the problem existed before the XO's were done. There in lies my fear.
I am patiently ( maybe not ) waiting for the break in. -
Tony I see the problem those are the wrong color Sonicaps.
Just kidding:D
Let them burn in a little while and I am sure Jesse can figure out what the issue is.
Be patient. I was freaking out for about 2 weeks when I did mine. Mine took @ 400 hours before I was smiling ear to ear.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
I def. agree with you guys about the caps. I am not concerned with the quality of sound at this time.
There is DEF. a sound diff. I wish it was the color of the caps Scott. lol
Hopefully Jesse can figure it out. There aren't any F1 races for 2 weeks. He may need something to do.
LOL -

Oooooo you pr*ck you!!!:D WAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA! -
Even brand new, you should hear a difference over your old caps. Maybe it's time to start investigating the components upstream."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Yes, if it is a pre-existing condition then I think Mike makes a great point. Perhaps a beat IC.

I def. thought of that. I have a brand new pre and CD player. Brand new IC's and brand new speaker cable.
The fact that it existed before hand worries I'm just at my financial limit with gear and I believe I am on the right track with what I am doing but this is def. holding me back. -
i say throw on a pair of Dynaco A25s and see if one of them runs louder than the other. Then at least you can rule out or rule in the speakers as the source of your problem.
I'll bring my Dynacos over tuesday if you like

Did you switch your speaker cables at the amp end? Would rule out all but the speaker cables and the speakers themselves.Jay

A forum member and I are going to tackle them sometime in the near future.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will keep ya posted as to what we can find. -
Two words.
F1 Nut. Nuff said.
One of the brand new RDO's was blown. Never thought to look at them since they were brand new. Feel a bit stupid.
Life is really good. Many smiles now. Hard to believe that one tweeter did all of that.
Thanks Jesse !!!!! My life is now restored. -

I heard that can happen when you keep nudging the treble up... -
lol Ed. I thought I could confuse him with a new pre-amp but he is a wiley one.
-
I've gotta tell ya folks, this one had me pulling my hair out. One of the first things I did was listen to the tweeters and completely missed the bad one. It wasn't until just about every other damn thing was checked, rechecked and reassembled that I discovered the bad tweeter. Talk about feeling stupid...LOL
Tony, you've made major improvements to the sound of the rig...bravo and thanks again for dinner, I really appreciated that.
Oh yeah, keep the treble flat. You will get use to it, I promise.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks again Jesse.
Musical bliss is back in my life.
BTW I called Polk and they are shipping a new RDO 194 out. Thanks again POlk CS. -
Sweet and congrats on finding the issue!!

Cool, but I thought we had discussed in our telcon last night that maybe the voice coil of one of tweeters was going south or had gone south. I guess it was a hair pulling job as Tony had described it, the problem existed before the advent of the RD0s and the xover upgrade. I would imagine that all the talk of the internal wiring being possibly rusty or oxidized just complicated the issue.
Sheesh, what time did you guys finally figure it out?
You da man Jess!:) -
Glad to hear you guys got it figured out. Maybe with all the tweeters working Tony can keep his hands off the treble control:D

I'm surprised Jesse didn't remove the treble control knob or rig up and method of producing an electric shock when touched.:D

Since you brought it up.....
Tony's new pre amp has a very bright blue light that surrounds the power button. He doesn't like it, so I told him I could disconnect the light.......and while I'm in there I told him that I'll disable the tone controls as well. I don't think he liked that idea...LOLPolitical Correctness'.........defined

Now I'm convinced you need to hook up an electrical shocking device on the treble knob hehehe!:D -
Alright you son's of guns. The treble is down. The light is still wicked bright but having a blast listening to music. I still have a 2000 in the full range spot so I am dealing with that for a week till the RDO comes in but all in all I am back to having a great time with music and "re-learning" some songs. Still buring in the XO's. Probably 250 hrs or so.
Thanks again Jesse. -

Great stuff Tony! -
Thanks Joe !!!!
Still hoping that - as you described - "the hand of god" touches the crossovers at 350 hrs. It could use a touch more detail. Still 1000 % better. -
Now that I have analized the problem more I have some thoughts that maybe someone else could use.
My brother did the XO's and he brought up a good topic. When I first got them they were "off". I replaced a 2000 tweeter that was bad in the originals. Not thinking much of it I put in the brand new RDO's. When my brother got the XO's he noticed a "solder short" in the effected speakers XO. He told me that he was very unimpressed about how the boards were done and re-soldered the entrire board. He seems to think, makes perfect sense, that the solder short was causing the tweeters to blow. Now that the XO's were expertly done there should never be an issue again.
The XO's are definatly coming to life. I have noticed a big change from aprox. 250-300 hrs range.
The speakers are constantly on and I woke up this morning and even with the speakers in the basement and the basement door closed and the volume rather low I could hear a difference from upstairs. Weird I know. I went down this morning and listened and they are singing there little hearts out. Much more clean and detailed.
Can't wait for the new RDO to come in and replace the 2000 I have in it now. I will take the non-full range-broken in RDO and put that in the full range spot and put the new RDO on the top.
Looking good guys.
I must say that even though it was a pain in the butt diagnosing all these issues I feel that I am more appreciative of them now.
Looking forward to more critical listening.
Cheers.
