I have been looking into upgrading to a new dvd player or blue ray and I have an older onky receiver TX-DS575 and was wondering if I should use the multi channel inputs on the back or just run the digital cable to the receiver? which will give me the best sound?

thanks for all the advice!!

jay, welcome to CP! It might depend on what you end up getting in your upgrade. Use the connection method that will utilize the gear with the best DAC.

If you get a BR player, you'll have to use the multi-channel for the new codecs. You'd obviously have to make sure the BR player has multi-outs.

+1, this will be the option for getting the best sound. Multi-outs allow you to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA, using your Blu Ray player as the transport.

So Optical wouldn't allow you to utilize Dolby TrueHD? I didn't know that!

Nope, only DD. HDMI is the best way to get HD sound, but 5.1/7.1 analog will work as well.
