I will be travelling to your fair city in a few weeks and am looking for some recommendations on where to eat. I will be staying at the Doubletree downtown. I will not have transportation so walking distance is appreciated or somewhere fairly close as I think they have a free shuttle that will take me anywhere I want within short distances. Thanks!

I don't live in Pittsburgh but spent a few weeks there near Carnegie Melon university to do a singing thing. Pittsburgh became my favorite city I've ever been in (In America at least). It's got such a good vibe! It's a college town - I believe 5 colleges/universities, it's a clean NYC with tons to do. Have fun!

Sounds great, my conference is at the University of Pittsburgh, right next to Carnegie Mellon. I hope I have enough time to do a little sightseeing but I'm not sure how it will all play out.

There's not much I don't like. Italian would be good since there isn't any really good Italian places where I live. Budget isn't much of an issue but I don't need to be eating 5 star every time. I'm just as happy eating in dives if the food is good, especially if its got some local flavor you can't get anywhere else.

If you're staying at the DoubleTree without a car, there are a couple of places within walking distance. For Italian, try Tambellini's on 7th Ave (about three blocks). Right across the street is the 7th Ave Grill which is also very good. The William Penn Hotel is about three blocks away and has good food, but very pricey.

I suggest that you check out the "Strip District" (no strip clubs) there are many ethnic restaurants and stores within a few blocks of the hotel Pramanti Brothers is a must!! It's famous and you'll find celebrities, tourists and just about every kind of people there. It's a sandwich joint where you will be hard pressed to spend $15. Talk to the Concierge, you can take a cab from the hotel to anywhere downtown for just a few dollars. There is a Morton's Steakhouse, Ruth Chris, etc. The Concierge can give you his recommendations. Check out a baseball game if the team is in town. The team stinks but the ball park is one of the finest in the entire league.

    Good luck!
