Ferrari does it again with the new 599GTO. There is something magical about the sound of their magnificent V-12 revving through the gears that turns me on in ways that I cannot discuss on the forum. :D

My $.02? That's one of the ugliest cars Ferrari has put out in recent times. Which is saying something...cuz Ferrari has put out some REAL Fugly cars in the last 10 years or so.

It looks like a Nissan 350Z on steroids. Look at the roofline. That's a 350Z roofline. The rear deck lid is slightly elongated, with a little spoiler/fin/hump thing...and the nose is longer, and has a bunch of garish scoops and fins.

The front end kind of reminds me of the way Dodge redesigned(read, "destroyed") the Viper over the last few years.

Other than that...that car is absolutely screaming "350z knock off".

The performance stats, while very good, aren't really anything special within the world of supercars.

    My $.02

Give me a Corvette, and all of the money I saved by not buying a Ferrari. Then I'll put that money into the Corvette, and I'll eat that Ferrari for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Here's a video of the GTO; it's long, but worth it if you really want to see and hear it.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op5Ex2J7UfY

And I agree somewhat with comfortablycurt. The car posted above is pretty ugly, imo, the 599 is very ugly, and the 612 is just disgustingly ugly. However, the slight differences they've made to the 599 in converting it to the GTO makes it look quite nice; again, imo.

But the new 599 looks like it was modeled after some of the cars from Fast and Furious. It doesn't do a thing for me.

And I must add that while the roofline of the 599 does look very similar to that of the 350Z now that it's been brought to my attention, the 350Z is still the last car I'm reminded of when I see the 599.

That's one of the Ferrari's that I actually like a lot. It has a certain understated elegance, but it's still Ferrari all the way as far as it's body lines go.

I'd have to agree with Matt Polk.

Porsche's are my favorite, as far as "supercars" go. If I'm ever in a position where I could actually afford to buy some kind of supercar...it would probably be a 1998ish or so Porsche 911 Turbo.

I've also always loved Lamborghini's. The Countach is one of my favorite cars of all time, though they aren't really that fast from a modern supercars perspective. The Diablo's are also some awesome cars. The newer Gallardo's and Murcielago's are also beautiful.

Realistically though, when I'm eventually in a situation where I can buy some kind of a high performance car...it will most likely be a 1998-2002 Pontiac TransAm WS6. That's always been one of my favorite cars...and I'm an unfortunate Pontiac fan...lol The TransAm is also slightly more attainable than a Porsche 911 Turbo, from a real world perspective(at least my real world perspective;)).

Though if I could have any supercar i wanted...I'll take a Porsche Carrera GT!:D

    Really?

    P1060158r.JPG

Has a 2.0L V6. Granted, same V6 in the Lancia Stratos but still, a V6 nonetheless. I think Enzo would be proud of the car he built to honor his late son "Dino". Then again, Dino designed the engine and if it wasn't for Dino, no Ferrari would have a V6 or V8. But Dino told pops that they could make more affordable sports cars with such engines and pops relented seeing better competition with Porsche as well as a healthier bottom line.

But Enzo did make the line it's own and called it the "Dino". He tragically marketed it as "Almost a Ferrari". The ironic thing about that is that many people consider the Dino 206 GT to be one of the best Ferraris ever built.

A girl I went to church with when I was a young lad, her dad offered her a 1972 Dino 246 GT for her FIRST car. She delicined because it didn't have a/c, so he bought her a 300z instead.

Still makes me want to puke when I think about it.

The very idea Enzo had in marketing the Dino was just that, to honor his son. The fact that the early were not badged "Ferrari" bears out my statement fully. Dino was to be it's own car entirely, but when Enzo relinquished day to day control of the manufacture of production cars to Fiat, all that changed., and all subsequent v6/v8 cars bore the Ferrari name. Enzo, stubborn as he was, did not like this very much, but so long as Fiat made no attempt to tell him what to do with the Scuderia(racing team) he remained a quiet and happy man.

It was said that the only time a V8 car made him smile was the F-40....

What!? There have been plenty of badass Ferrari's that used V8's. The F40 comes to mind.

Personally, I much prefer the throaty rumble of a V8 to the scream of a V12. To each their own though.
