Sound "proofing"?

OK, not sure if this is the right spot but here it goes. I am looking for a material that can be used to block off a hallway to reduce the noise that goes to the bedrooms. There is a hallway from my living room than goes back to the rest of the rooms, and my older son (7) always complains that the tv is too loud. I was thinking of having the wifey sew some nice thick "curtains" and hang them (nicely of course, and they would be pulled back to the side until it's movie time) from the wall above the hallway entrance.... any ideas if this would work on cutting down the noise? I know that the low end (bass, if you will) will not really be affected too much by this, but what about the rest of the noise? Is it worth looking into? Would I need to research acoustical treatment materials, or do you think a few layers of some thick fabric and maybe some badding (sp?) would suffice?

Try using a moving blanket first, to see if it gives you the results you're looking for before going through the trouble and expense of making something.
We used this method in the studio with heavy blankets on movable frames, it worked very well.

It's a rental.... not too sure they would be happy with me if I started adding doors! I would actually add a solid core pocket door (slides into the wall) if it was my house.
I will see if I can get some moving blankets... thanks for the ideas!
I just found a couple of velvet panels that we had up in our old house (with black out panels attached to the back)...... I just hung those above the door way on a broom stick and some gorilla hooks. It makes a little difference, but they are thinner than what I would actually make and they don't reach the floor... there's a 18" gap at the bottom, and a couple of inches on either side. This is making me think that it might be worth making something.
Any other ideas? -
Use Fonac Barrier.
I don´t know if you can get this in your country, but it´s excellent.
