I'm looking at getting a new center channel. The opening on my tv stand is just barely over 7.75" and the CS2 is measured at 7.75". It's going to be a tight fit where it's either wedged in or barely an 1/8" of clearance. Does anyone foresee this being a problem soundwise? I'm a little worried about vibration if it's so tight, also doen'st seem like a good idea be wedged inbetween the top and bottom of the stand

You should also be concerned about scratches to the CS2 when you insert and remove it.

Speakers do sound a little better when their sound is able to emanate from all directions. Placing it inside an enclosure like you are will stifle the sound somewhat. It won't sound bad, but it may have less presence.

I have a CSiA4 in the same situation It works great in my opinion. Just make sure that you have it as far forward as possible. I have notived that if it is pushed back into the shelf it does sound a little off.
    Front - RTiA5's
    Rear - RTiA3's
    Center - CSiA4
    Sub - PSW110

    +1
The CS2 is a closed cabinet design so you only need to worry about the sound coming from the front. It doesn't need top, bottom, left, right, or rear space. Though like Jones said, if it's too far back you will get reflection from the stand.
I wouldn't concern myself with scratches from movement (either from you or from the vibrations you mentioned). I doubt you're going to be moving the center at all once you place it, and vibrations won't move the entire speaker unless you're trying to make your neighbors' ears bleed.

because of the stand, the CS2 would sit 2.5-3 inches back from the edge. The back port will be 1" away from the back of the stand. Would any of these be a problem? I'd prefer to get the CS2, but I don't want to risk sound quality if these would be an issue. The CS1 would sit a little closer to the edge but I'm not sure if the difference would be worth going for that?

oops, sorry for the misinformation. Totally looked at the wrong center and thought it didn't have a port.

so are you saying that's not enough room for the port?

Although I've never owned a center with a rear port, one of my friends had a center channel in a similar setup. the speaker was as close to the back of the stand as possible (with only enough room for the speaker cables to connect to the terminals). It made a BIG difference when we experimented moving it fowards and backwards. he ended up buying a stand for the center so it sat in from of the TV stand itself. Perhaps someone with more experience could comment, but if it were me I'd want at least 6 inches of space.

thanks, I actually called Polk and they suggested 3 - 6 inch clearance for the rear port. Looks like I will be getting the CS1 by default

When i got home, i realized that I could take off the iron arch bar in the front of the tv stand. With the bar off, I can now get the CS2 in there with 1/8" clearance on top and I can push it out to the edge giving me at least 5" of clearance behind the rear port (more if i have the center overhang the front). If it's too tight, I figured I could sand the top lip of the stand down a little, but looks like 1/8" should be OK. So I picked up the 60's and the CS2, will get them next week. Hope this is a big step up from the Bose 301 and VCS10!
