I do, finally.
First came the SDA CRS+, then the "What the heck is this extra cable thing?"
Oh, they that know say, that is what gives you the "SDArray". but it didn't.
Turns out you have to have an amp with "common ground".
Whaat? Now I have to buy another amp? Up till now I had been thinking I needed dual mono to be on the top of my vintage audio game.
So the search takes me to CL, and then to Northern Colorado to the Zarrdoss showroom, (and it is like a showroom). got a Sonance 2120 from him, plenty of power, and common ground. Wohoo! Short lived though as I was buying that for a client so he could get his Maggies singing. I had the whole thing going on for about two weeks, then had to give it up.
Patience, and money, brought me another 2120 home to roost finally today.
So that is what Stevie Ray sounds like in SDA.
Now I get it, or I've got it.
Yea...SDA

    Congrats for sure.

Stevies' "Riviera Paradise" IS a fantastic instramental to show off any systems pros and cons. If there is no cons It is simply one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard!

I've ruined alot of peoples idea of them thinking they had a great system. They walk away feeling like they need to go spend some more money to hear music on a new level. I love and hate doing it , BUT somebody has to. They can't miss what they haven't heard.;)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Stevie Ray does sound wonderful on SDA's. A couple weeks ago I watched the Live at the El Mocambo DVD on my 2 channel rig, and SRV had my SDA's singin!

No... Thank you. No better Polk salesman than a Polk owner eh?
Tweeters are next in the "saving up for" plan. X-overs before or after,I am not sure. I like to do things one at a time to hear the differences. Which upgrade would show the most difference?

Also on the Stevie Ray favorites list is Lenny from Texas Flood. That and Tin Pan Alley are my reference songs, (on vinyl). I test every new thing with those songs.

Tweeters are the most noticeable and easiest so I would start there. Cross-overs take some time for the caps to burn in but I did notice a difference right away over stock and they kept on sounding better and better. Both are definitely worthwhile upgrades.

Great post! Hopefully one day I will be able to hear Stevie on some SDA's. Although I am thinking it will happen sooner if I visit Mr. Ken locally.:D

I'm a red head (not really), but after you get my pants off it is doubted that I would remain in the bunker for long! :p

Not quite! Is your SDA cable pin/blade? If it is you now must perform the 4.1TL mod on them to REALLY say, "Now I get it!":D

My cable is blade/blade. does that mean that I am spared the $687 mod shown in the post you directed me to?
My focus now is the tweeter replacement, then the X-0vers.
I am curious though, is there value in upgrading the SDA cable?

It's actually not $687 to just TL the crossover for RD0198.

    Cabinet refinishing: $175.- unnecessary

Crossover capacitors and resistors: $208. Necessary

Three pairs of Cardas CCGR-S binding posts: $96. unecessary

    RD0198-1 tweeters: $96. actual cost $48

Custom SDA interconnect cable: $107. unecessary

    Grille cloth: $5. unecessary

    Total modifications/upgrades: $687.

Your actual cost would be $256 because you would just need the Crossover Caps & resistors plus the RD0198. But this is a moot point since you have the blade/blade version.

If you plan to make the SDA cable modification that Darqueknight made in his 4.1TL thread using the cable, spades, cable sheathing insulation & Cardas binding post it is going to cost you more money and you will have to cut out a hole to the proper dimensions in the binding post cup to ensure the Cardas post doesn't spin. As far as SQ improvement, I would say, yes.

Rather than go through that work and expense, Ben62670 will make you a replacement SDA cable that will fit the current blade/blade socket with superior materials that would also make an improvement in SQ but without the work or expense.

    I hope this helps.:)

Thanks for letting me off the hook on the $650 + modifications.:p
Frankly, some tweeters, and capacitors are as far as I will go with these speakers. Trying to stay away from diminishing returns, as it were.
The CRS+ are just part of a larger vintage 2 channel system that I maintain, and am happy that I was able to hear them properly powered. The Polks and Sonance are the youngest components that I own. And probably will be for a while.
