I don't know how long the ad will run but the picture sure was vague but I thought about it overnight and called this morning. I met this great guy today and bought his older stereo. A few inquired but I was the only one to follow through...I inquired and went today to check it out.I didn't ask what anything was because I was interested in the speakers mainly. I thought the speakers were Advent anniversary edition but they were the originals and the stereo I thought was an onkyo with a sony cd..well it was a Nakamichi RE-1 receiver and Nakamichi MB-3s CD 7 disc changer.
The stereo works REAL good and I haven't checked the speakers yet but I'm certain they will need surrounds and maybe a tweeter or two.
I still was shocked to see Nakamichi names on the gear...:D.

I've got a Nakamichi Stasis receiver already but the tuner doesn't work on it.
I like this new stereo though, it seems to have a ton of power. I like the changer too, it seems to play pretty well to.

All smiles tonight.

Looks like a pair of The "New" Advent Loudspeaker w/bullnose molding on the front. If so, I had a pair of those in Stephie's bedroom for years. She probably got them when she was 5. I moved them out about 5 years ago when she was 15. AR-302 in there now. Anyhow, they're from about 1979 or so. Nice deal you got today. Those are nice speakers.

The Advent speakers I have the surround in the drivers need replaced or I can just replace the drivers.

    Any suggestions?

No helmets...But he should still have them if they're on his ad page still.I just looked, yep, they're there and that IS a great price for each if they're in great shape.

I'm 52 and have wanted a motorcycle for at least 15 yrs. now. maybe when I'm 60, I'll get a license to operate one and get one.:D

The Tags on the back plates say "The Advent loudspeaker" and they really are in great shape for their age.
I almost can't wait to hear if the tweeters work. Tomorrow will tell.

I have and have owned some other advents (all need or needed surrounds)but not this model so I'm excited to see what's behind that grill. We tried just for a second to pull one grill off and it didn't seem to want to move so I told him I'd look harder at home.

The guy was even giving me a satisfaction guaranteed deal on this package. My kinda guy. Just like me.

    Refoam kit?

Not to be a smart **** but yeah I know that.

My question is where do I get the stuff to fix it? Either to fix the surrounds or replace the drivers. Guess I should have said it lamens terms.:)

Use Google, search for large advent refoam and you'll find dozens of choices. Ebay is full of kit sellers too.
This one seems to be a popular choice:

For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

    Thanks,

I know there are many choices and wanted to know what people were using.

Parts Express.com sells surrounds for alot of popular older manufacturers that are known for their foam rotting.

I'm glad Polk was into the highest quality he could produce and still sell a speaker at some-what affordable prices.

Just making sure, I don't assume anything. I've seen some pretty obvious questions asked before, and I asked a couple myself when I first started lol.

Well onto the woofers, and tweeters. One woofer was replaced with a 10" cheapo and the other original 12"er's surround was repaired with window and door seal foam. The Advent woofer might still work if a good surround is put on it.
Oh well, both tweeters sound great , even though one has a dent in the center dome. They do sound good for what the woofers are like. That tells me how much the cross-over system helps in this two way system. The speakers really sound great until some bass below say 100hz comes into play. All in all I'm still very happy to have helped the young man lighten his moving load.
I listened again to that Nakamichi system today and am blown away by the spaciousness(is that a real word?) and detail I heard from a CD I've heard a hundred times. I was listening through a cheap set of JBL's too. It sounded almost like the Paradigm studio 20v3 or the Boston Acoustic MV60 I used to own. That's about it for me on this purchase.
