Why is a thread closed when its there to educate my ****?

More moderators is more moderation Jesse. You (all) brought Ken out of retirement, you think that was cheap, pulling him away from his Stellavox? I'm not completely convinced the man doesn't sleep in a coffin, you should be able to relate.
You (or anyone) can sit firm on your ground, but the emails alone for ME are becoming a hassle, and at the end of the day, all it boils down to is acting like adults. I'll be the first to admit childishness in the past, search the forum, there is plenty. If I can change, anyone can. It's a 'greater good' thing right now, and that in, and of itself is good for Club Polk.
Change is here, again, embrace it, or move on. That's pretty much it, and that goes for you, me, everyone else here. You're obviously an integral part of the big picture, rock it man, hardcore.
Cheers,

By the way, I looked for the subject thread several time but could not find it - my bad.

Here is the thread in question
I am not deliberately trying to be argumentative but if you guys think the simple question posed in the op calls for a shutdown then your a buttkiss . This wasnt a speaker cable fact or fiction thread or a debate on the subject
Gentlmen read the thread before applying buttkiss chapstick and stay on topic about this specific thread in relation to the question or it'l be shutdown -
Ricardo, the 'zero tolerance' is in full effect. Do we catch everything? What about the grey area? Why does Polk even have to figure what that area is, when we are for the most part, adults?
Sure, I know you. I like you. I love you. Can we sit there and (for example) let you drop the F bomb, or taunt members, and then turn around and ban someone with 10 post for doing the same?
There have been issues, they have been addressed, and it's a learning experience for Polk, and much as it is for its membership. Is the forum worse now than it was a month ago? Is it a little better? Has the 'Al honeymoon' worn off already? Does he have to pop in daily to keep us all in check?

I didnt really see anything wrong with that thread either. It got a little stern at times but I saw no disrespect or anything worthy of a shutdown.......and I love Russ' butt so you know I wouldnt waste a chance to kiss it!
I dont think there is anything "wrong" with this forum at all. Its still, after 7 years, my home page and the one I post on most. I think all we need are a couple touch ups.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

The issues are being addressed, but there's a learning curve for both the mods and the members. If a thread is going to be shut down, an explanation of what rule was broken should be the last post in the thread. A single user calling someone a name or someone doing a tiny bit of brand/other forum bashing doesn't warrant a thread shut down. Those things need to be addressed with individual warnings to the offenders. There were at least two things wrong with that thread - both of which I just mentioned. If those were the reasons then the last post in the thread should state that, but really... shutting down a thread completely is an extreme measure and should be reserved for extreme cases. Not just because someone doesn't like the way it LOOKS like the thread is going, or because cable debates always end up a certain way. Pre-emption isn't a good policy and breeds resentment and tempts idle hands into pushing boundries. This is a very slippery slope and I'm affraid we might be heading in the wrong direction. I frequent another forum with 240k+ members and thousands of posts a day that has a clearly defined set of rules and strict enforcement. Funny thing is, they allow religious and political discussions and one rarely sees mod intervention because everyone knows what the rules are, where the lines are drawn, and what the consequences are. I'm not sure we're to that point yet.

More moderators is more moderation Jesse.
I'll have to disagree. The collective wanted more moderators to handle things like spam, which would sit here for days at times and to deal with obvious trolls quickly. The collective did not ask for almost zero tolerance nor the closing of threads that have no valid reason to be closed. If Polk wants this place to die, keep on course as it's well on it's way. I would however, prefer the use of common sense.but the emails alone for ME are becoming a hassle, and at the end of the day, all it boils down to is acting like adults.
So, you've got whiny, hyper-sensitive types emailing you that something offended them and yet we're all suppose to be acting like adults. I know you can see the irony in that Russ.Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."
President of Club Polk -
I can see it Jesse, the problem lies in that new emails, from new users is consistent these days. What you (or I) see as whiny, hypersensitive types are what are at the end of the day, Polk customers.
I miss the Club Polk of old, the small online pub that we would hang out in, and do as we saw fit, don't like it, leave, period. You can't find the door, we will be happy to show you. The fact is, because of US - ME, YOU, etc, it's no longer the corner bar, it's a friggin franchised internet sensation.
Seriously, we have 'old timers' now, that have no idea what that even means! There are more Polkfests every year than I can even show up for, and you know I don't need an excuse to share a drink and a smoke with my old friends.
I chalk most of it up to growing pains. The hardcore members know who they are, and believe me, Polk knows too. Embrace and adapt, it's always bad before it's good, it's just part of the forum's evolution, and I believe that. So what, corporate has tightened the reigns a good bit, who cares, it's still your (our) world brother, were (they're) just posting in it. Fast forward a year from now, and think of who else might become hardcore, inner circle material? Not that it's mandatory, it's just the way it is, and it's not changing, whether I'm here, you are here, Al, Patrick, or Ken, or Mark.... This audio sphere will keep spinning, with or without any or all of us. I choose to stay in the loop, I helped create it, but I am far from in charge, and I'm fine with that.
Cheers,

I would say so. Audioholics is a good and respected audio forum as is this one.
It was unfair to characterize another respected forum that way.
Both provide us with good sources of information.
They are just different with their own personalities. Just let's learn to agree to disagree.
I strongly disagree with you about Audioholics and agree with Shacks statement in the closed thread.
I hope you can agree to disagree with that.

Reading this thread, I consider our friendly moderators have been overly patient with many whyners and argumentative posters during the course of this discussion. I personnally think the reason this childish discussion hasn't been closed yet is in fact due to their friendliness and patience. I for one personally believe CP has already slightly improved since ADMIN has decided to enforce and tighten the rules. Moderation has better taste. Useless having moderators without expecting them to apply moderation.
Cheers!

I think enough has been said here. Time to move on. Maybe we should open up a thread at this point to allow 'everyone' to voice their opinion on how they think the 'new' forum is working out for them as a kind of poll....realizing that Polk is going to do what they think is appropriate--in any case...it still might help some members let off a little steam, perhaps?

I agree with Jesse's disagreement. I don't think the average poster wants to be beaten into submission, however some posters will need to be I realise. I also agree that common sense and SELF moderation should prevail.

Two SUPER hardcore members, showing concerns in the last 30 minutes. That bothers me.
Russ, I think what was meant by more moderation, and it was stated so in Al's original thread, was really more consistent moderation. You make an excellent point above. What was happening was the trolls were getting the leeway and the forum collective was suffering infractions and bans because of it.
I've noticed that the trolls have gone back to their caves. I've noticed that improper or inapproriate posts were being deleted in a very timely fashion or as soon as they were reported. I've noticed that a general warning from a mod that a thread is going south so "becareful boys," warning issued, but I've also noticed that an iron fist has come down on the forum and some threads, just some, have been closed just as they were getting interesting because one guy, one, decided to thread crap and that is what happened in the OP thread that got shut down. I've also noticed that the usual abusive posters for the most part have toned it down.
No one wanted or asked for "zero tollerance." I think you mods are doing a fine job but there seems to be a hair trigger on the closing of threads. We know that you guys can't be everywhere at once and I'm sure you're getting more complaint PMs than ever since the new rules were put into place.
I think we, most of us, are asking that if a thread is staying within the confines of civil discussion, they should remain open regarless of whether they take a temporary right or left turn. We have all pretty much become aware of the practice of getting off topic and usually fix it right away.
Please keep up the good work but please also take into account that iron fisted moderation is as Ricardo and a few others said make this place a boring forum rather than a fun, informative club.
One other thing; you've stated that if you can change from the childishness of the past we all can, and I agree and as for myself have been doing so. However, there still seems to be personality conflicts by the mods where a member who is disliked, or seems to be, is singled out by a mod in threads where said person was acting within the confines of the rules. If feel that those types of situations cause problems and would be better served by PM.
For the most part I agree with you that this Club is a better place and we all, not just Polk in general, are in the learning process and the "Al's Honeymoon" is starting to wear off as it should because for a while there everyone was, as one member put it, "walking on razor blades on hot coals." Now that it is relaxing a bit, I think the "zero tolerance" is not necessary are we've all pretty much, for the most part, taken on the responsibility of keeping each other in check, again a learning process, a tweeking perhaps.
Just my longwinded two cents. I hope you take it in the spirit inwhich it is given. -
To the OP....there are PLENTY of reasonably priced cables for you to start with....there is PLENTY of discussion on the topic. The original thread, as most cable rants do, was heading south....do a little homework, and you'd know that.

P.s. IMHO, of course
'Cmon Mark (xcapri) the guy posted his opinion of a forum. You know as well as most here that that particular forum is not respected here because of their views. Does that really call for a thread to be closed in your opinion? and really who cares if a member doesn't like another forum he can state his reasons why if you cared to ask him. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I will however agree to disagree with your point.:) -

Troy,
The thread was heading south, true, but stayed pretty much within the confines of civil discussion with the exception of ONE member who has a history of causing problems.
A simple "watch it boys" as I've seen done in other threads by the mods (not baby sitting mind you) would have steared the thread right back on track and the OP would have received even more suggestions than he already had. I truly believe that one of us would have stepped up to get it back on track if given the chance but the thread was closed IMHO prematurely.
And again IMHO the OP was doing his homework by asking our opinions on what cables would best suit his rig of course he won't know until he tries them. -
Russ,
You really get that many whiny, hypersensitive emails?? are there really that many people that let a post bother them? is there really that much insecurity, low self esteem in the audio world?
Well I would like to piss and moan that since I have joined here that my bank account has less money.. should I just send this as an email to you?
