Cable debates are a touchy subject, and i don't think anyone really knows what the threshold is on that subject. I thought that thread was going fairly well, but i guess not.

PS: Your thread titles crack me up. :)

Questioning the motive of moderators in the open forum is not the best way to handle this. Send them a PM instead.

I absolutely agree and threads that have degenerated.into name calling and such have no place here other than for a good laugh but it seems lately that even If the thread veers off topic its getting closed.

MECA does this on their forum. If 1 post Is off topic the thread gets closed. As a result, a club with a couple THOUSAND members has maybe 5 posts a day on their forum and theyre all boring, business only posts.

Even if a thread Is getting off topic or running long, I say leave it open as long as there is a conversation going on.

These questions usually result in a few useful responses and 100 other useless responses and eventual argument here. The issue is subjective and has rabid followers in both camps of belief. I encourage you to make your own decision based on the information you find in your travels, all of which is already on this website.

I'm sure you can find enough cable data and pro/con information by using the search engine.

    Thanks and Happy Listening.

Does this interpretation mean that we should not discuss Emo vs Krell or other types of equipment comparisons? Heated discussions seem to pop up in comparisons as well. Not looking to cause trouble Doro, and I am not questioning your call on this. I am only seeking understanding regarding how far this goes.

    Thanks!

The thread in question didnt belong to any camp nor was it a subjective issue . It was an objective issue being that I myself wanted to find a quality cable moderately priced

I merely asked opinions of other members to help me fashion my own opinion based on there personal experiance . The goal of the thread was to gest the best bang for my hard earned buck ......... nothing more nothing less

The mods shutting down a thread where not one of the (impossible to find) rules was broken is not "more moderation" it's censorship. It is also is just inflammatory to the membership, as evidenced by this thread.

I haven't seen the subject thread, but if it was civil, leave it alone. If someone got out of line, punish that person, not all of the participants by just shutting down the entire thread.

Just my 2 cents. Fred - (not my real name) :):)

And I think you mods as a whole are doing a fine job, there is still plenty of latitude allowed as far as im concerned.

Wow!! lets see here (impossible to find rules) ? You cant be serious, there at the top of every section in a sticky titled (Important Message From Management)

And you havent seen the subject thread but still feel free to tell Mark he is doing his job all wrong?

The moderators make the decision based on prior experience as to whether or not to shut a thread down or to simply remove a few offending posts, obviously they felt due to the subject matter based on prior threads this was the best option. If you feel differently at least take the time to look at said thread before telling them their doing it all wrong

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    Mark and other moderators:

Truthfully, I thank you for shutting down certain threads as quickly as have been occurring as of late. The genuine creativity of ideas concerning Polk products, including mods and all of the things that people can come up with modifying Polk technology has not been suppressed. Nor has genuine questions and the seeking of audio knowledge.

All that has been suppressed with the uptick of closed threads has been the teenage level posting behavior by some posters here.

    Hillbilly/Lee

This is a much welcomed change. Thank you.

Every time I want to review the forum rules, I just can't find the dang things. :):) Guess I need to remember "Important message from Management" means "Forum Rules"

I never said anyone did their "job all wrong." My comments were general in nature. If someone breaks a rule, punish that person, not the membership in general. Is that not a good idea??

It's not Mark lightening up, it's no one individual. Do you want to be a league of extraordinary gentlemen, or fade to black with the rest of the internet?

This is an audio board, plain and simple - and some topics are touchy and simply spiral out of control, again, and again, and again. Cables is one of those such topics. My advice? Buy good ones. Others? It doesn't matter. The problem with most debates as such, is that the debate itself never really converts anyone, or is any universal solution is found, but rather makes people on either side more entrenched in the beliefs they had already.

What the membership needs to grasp is that this forum is something that costs Polk a LOT of money to keep up, server space, bandwidth, etc etc etc. It doesn't need to be a money maker - that's not the point, it needs to be a useful tool for members seeking advice, and a place for people with similar interests to gather and discuss all things audio (well, almost all things). Polk is happy to foot that bill, they LOVE their membership.

Relax, move on, seek advice, listen, help others, talk shop. It's all about the music at the end of the day, and that's why most of us are here in the first place. The brotherhood and fellowship that can ensue is only the icing on an already tasty audio cake.

We ARE the best forum, and will remain so, but as we grow and times change, we must adapt. You can embrace it, or find something else to do, perhaps re-arrange your sock drawer.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Actually, the collective asked for more moderators, not more moderation. There is a difference.

And that is the "potential" problem. I don't think anyone asked for zero tolerance, but if you ask me, if that's where we are going then I am very sorry, because it won't do any good. It will become...boring. At least for me.

I hear ya Russ and I totally agree. All Im saying and I think others too is that closing a thread just because it veers off topic is a little over the top IMO. Now that is as long as it remains civil. Once a thread becomes a brawl or even starts to, then it should be shut down. I think we all agree on this. However if we're still having a conversation in that thread, even if its about whether or not there's a Santa Clause, I dont see anything wrong with keeping it open. Like I said before, a business only forum is boring as grass growing. Just look at MECA's. Thousands of members - 3 posts a day.

I think thats all anybody's trying to say. Nobody's bitching or saying everything sucks and nobody's threatening to leave the forum or whatever. We all spend a lot of time on here and a lot of us are the ones giving out the advice people come looking for so while this is Polk's private property, I dont think we're out of line throwing out suggestions. If you guys dont want to hear them, thats fine. Let us ramble on in our thread by ourselves. At least we'll feel like we're accomplishing something. ;)

    And +1 Jesse.
