It's almost 1am here and the farmer that works the field directly behind my house... 45 feet away, has decided that NOW is a great time to bring his f*&@ing tractor into the field and turn the soil and plant this year's soybean crop!!!

You like to eat don't you? Agriculture was here long before suburbia was. Move back to the city proper and you won't have that problem. You're lucky you don't live next to my farm. I like to soak down the ground next to the complainers with a nice layer of honey from the hog confinement facility.

If Indiana is like Iowa, agricultural equipment is exempt from noise laws, always has the right-of-way, etc. Farming isn't an 8 to 5 job. You have to run when the weather is good and run 24/7 until the crops are in or out, depending on the season. If you don't like it, don't live next to that environment.

I have a large farm behind my house, one of the first things I did when I moved here was to make friends with him. It's paid off big time. You should go out there with a cup of coffee or soda and thank him for what he does.

Most of that crop is probably GM soybean...we started to mess with soybeans in the 90's, I think. And the Europeans got shook up about it in 1995 when our first shipments arrived there. Most of that is used for 'feed' as I understand it. Animal feed. And the U.S. is ONE of the Largest producers of soybeans in the world..it's one of the very few things we can export. So give the dude a break...besides those guys are not on 'our' time.

GM crops! Yum, yum. Two new varieties of GM Rice that is pest resistant are being introduced in China and the DEBATE rages on and on...will I turn into a human-tomato, do you think?

Nah, let's blast our fruits and vegetables with gamma rays instead? I'm gonna eat a lot of gamma green peppers and go Hulk on you all!

He finally shut down about 2:30 am. I understand he's gotta make a living too. I have lived here for three years now and this is the first time he has been out like this in that time. It's just annoying as hell when you need to get up at 6:30 in the morning to go to work.

Yeah, I'm a lite sleeper myself, its a pain...

One thing you have to take into consideration, its very very critical for farmers to get the seed in the ground at the right time. If the soil is right then you need to get in there. Soil moisture can change so fast and then your screwed... Once its time to "hit the field" thats pretty much all the matters to farmers...they want and need to get it done. I know it seems weird for him to be out there at that time of the night but trust me, hes just trying to make his living.....

I know, as I've been farming all my life till a few years ago when I leased the land out....

Try to cut him a little slack, I'm sure he doesn't want to be out on his tractor at 1:00am, anymore than you want him out there.

This is the time when sweet corn needs to get planted to hit the early July markets, so that could be what he is planting.

I was up in your area last night just north of Ft. Wayne picking up some stereo gear.
It started raining very heavy last night and I could barely see out the windshield. I'll bet he was aware of the impending storms and had to get his crops planted before it flooded him out of the fields.

He was probably planting the last neighbor that complained :D . I come from a family of farmers while none have been out that early tilling the ground I'm sure they would if something went wrong with the equipment that prevented them from getting out to do it during the day to beat the weather. They have spent along night helping the birth of a calf which was quite a sight, I was only in grade school when that 1st happened and there were no gloves and had to use a come along with a nylon strap because something was going wrong but everything ended up being alright. My grand parents were some of the best hands on farmers (old school) I knew.

nice one jesse. i honestly didnt think you had that one in you. with all the crap you sling on this forum john and all you can do is whine and complain about a guy doing his job? tch! then admit you are a theif? i had you as a flake but didnt honestly think youd prove it. the farmers here use my driveway at 2 am cause thats the only outlet to the 160 acres around me. have one of those monsters go 10 ft from your bedroom window and see what you think. your in farm country pal. dig it or get out! oh yea...i bet if you were a man and asked for a bucket of the gents produce hed probably give it to you.

I am always at the markets when they open. Ours has a wonderful Amish woman that makes the best cookies. Her husband brings meats that rival Omaha Steaks in quality and I buy from them all the time.

As far as grabbing corn, All the corn grown here is intended for the use of the ethanol plants here in town, and is the crappiest corn for eating purposes. If I wanted to **** a bonfire or two, I suppose it would be ok, but I won't be eating any of it.:)
