My room is 18' long x 13' wide.....I have decided to do a good 5.1 system vs a crammed 7.1 system.....as far as the rears go......

I am deciding between the rtia1 or the fxia6..........any input?

Also.....where do i place them....rear corners of the room? thanks....

a good place is to place your surrounds about 3 to 4 feet above your head while sitting down. Higher up isn't a problem either though. If your room is 13' wide and your chair/couch is there... you would want the surrounds not quite in the corner. maybe a foot inward from it. some people place their surrounds to close to each other. give them room to breath.

once placed, run the auto calibration in your receiver for correct levels and delay.

5.1 in your room would be perfect, like you said 7.1 would be crammed up and it would have no benefit. Go with what Al (danger boy) suggested, that should get you a pretty good sound. What other speakers are you running in your setup? Either one will make good surround speakers, and the FXiA6's have a Bipole/Dipole switch for better sound diffusion. Included below is a link to Dolby's website for "proper" speaker placement. Good luck.

I'd go with the FX's, I've tried mine at all different heights and like them best with the tweeters just above ear level (within 1 foot). Play with the bipole-dipole switch to see which you like best.

You haven't mentioned where your seating is in relation to the room - in the middle, adjoining the rear wall? When it's against the rear wall, I've found the best approach is rear wall-mounted FXis. It's harder to get a dimensional feel with seating against a rear wall, but the FXi speakers can do it. If there's space behind the seating, either speaker can do the job. You should read these for some reference:
