ESavinon, disregarding the fact that it's possible for 2 Polkies to argue over whether water is wet  , that was an excellent video, very well done.

Yeah, I think you should be free to splatter your brains, but one way or another the rest of us end subsidizing your risk taking.

The raised premiums resulting from a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt even this out. So, maybe the state fines from a ticket are unwarranted (unless they go straight to the fire department... gotta pay that water bill when you hose off the street), but the insurance needs a way to report and assess the risk that they're taking on your policy.

If costs are even a real concern for you, it's a lot cheaper for an insurance company to have me splatter my brains all over the pavement than it is to keep me alive through a feeding tube. Not to say that's always the difference between wearing or not wearing a seat belt. It could be the difference between whiplash and being a quadriplegic.

Regardless, if the insurance companies want to charge people more who don't wear their seat belts, I am all for that. Let the insurance companies decide the risks they're willing to assume to have me as a customer.

Governments shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Joe, 55 MPH into a concrete standing object and not a scratch? Looks like you started drinking early that day ;)

LOL! That was in my drinking days however I hit the pool of water at 55 mph the hydroplaning and spinning slowed the car down so there is no way I hit that concrete base at 55. I think if I did even with all that heavy steel around me I wouldn't be walking around today.

I wear my seatbelt religiously but I am in total agreement with the above. I was pissed when they made that law. All it does is create revenue for the township or state.

I was driving over the Commadore Barry Bridge from PA to NJ one time and was going the speed limit, out of the blue this big **** Ford Excursion comes flying up my ****, at that moment, a Transit cop came over the crest of the bridge, flew past me then did a U turn and followed me to the Jersey side of the bridge. He pulled me over and I took off my seat belt to be able to reach my wallet. The cop said he got me on radar at 75 mph. I vehemently protested stating that his radar picked up the bigger object, that being the Ford Excursion, when he came back from checking my license and registration he said (as he was grabbing my seatbelt) "what about this?" I explained that I had to unbuckle my seat belt to be able to reach my wallet.

He gave me a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and let the "speeding" go.

I went to fight the ticket. Before court the Sergent would interview each person who was fighting a ticket. When he got to me, I explained the entire situation and insisted that I was wearing my seatbelt. The Sergent told me that the cop was cutting me a break by not charging me with speeding and just gave me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. I protested this. He then told me that they could bring the cop in and put him in front of the judge and the judge was going to side with the cop for the "speeding" and I would get a high fine and points against my record so he suggested I pay the seatbelt fine and be done with it. I did and am still pist off about it to this day.

    Nicely Done Ed.

In 1980 I had a 1972 Riviera. It was a behemoth at well over two tons. One night I was heading out to a party and there was a deluge going on. I had never worn seat belts before but that night something told me to put them on. Later, at around 55 mph I hit small flash flood and hydroplaned out of control and came to dead stop against a huge aluminum street light with a concrete base. I came out (as did the behemoth) without a scratch or bruise.

I've worn seat belts ever since. This was at a time when seat belts were just shoved between the seat cushions.

I have always loved the Rivieras.... my first was a '64 and I have owned about a dozen of them over the years. The sad part is I wish I had every one of them back!

Yes I am aware of that, but the picture I have of my '72 is crappy so I posted this one. I also owned a '73 BTW.

I will one day own one of those two years of Rivs again.
