LSi7: Best bookshelf for the money?

IMO the Energy RC10 would get my vote as the best bookshelf for the money ($700 or less).
+1. ( Under $300.00 @ Vann's few months ago.) -
I have Energy C-3's on my patio rig, so I can imagine the RC-10 being a big contender.
Try the RC10 with the Cary Sli 80 and then tell me if you ever need a better speaker pair. -

You never NEED a "better" speaker, but I am willing to bet he would sure want to try something different. The music lover in me is content listening to great sounding music on a great system, but the audiophile in me always wants to try new things, even if what I already have is pretty good. I find half of the fun of this hobby is trying out new equipment. Most of the enjoyment, though, comes from just listening to good sounding music instead of listening to speakers and worrying about gear.- Jeremy

I had a hard enough time throwin C-3's out on the patio, 24/7--Don't think I would do that to RC-10's.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
If you think the Ring Radiator tweeter sounds good now, what until you hear one with a modified LSi x-over, gives new meaning to taking a "blanket off the speakers".Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

IMHO, Polk LSi series with proper amplification will bow to another other dynamic speakers. I tried the Krell 400xi with the LSi7s and I loved the combo.

I keep hearing about modding the LSi crossovers on this forum and its piquing my interest. I might have to look into it when I get a bit more money. I love them now and am trying to imagine them sounding even better.....:D
I can't help but think though of hearing about people modding the xovers on the vintage monitors just to find they lost that classic Polk sound they love and then regretting doing the "upgrade".- Jeremy

I am very happy with the LSi series. Sound results are excellent when using a Sunfire amp:D.

I doubt you could find a single post stating that. It makes them sound even more vintage. You do realize in the vintage speakers they used about $2 worth of x-over parts and today that figure is closer to $7 (wholesale). The biggest improvement you can make is to replace the stock caps and resistors. Even bargain brands like Dayton, Jantzen, Solen are a huge improvement over the cheap Meixcan and Chinese sourced original caps.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Puritan Audio PSM136 Pwr Condtioner & Classic PC's | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node3 - Tubes add soul! -

I'll admit I was a bit of a sceptic in regards to upgrading the caps and resistors, and also thought it may be a waste and I would hear no difference because of my modest rig. Boy was I ever wrong. The SDA-1C's sound so much better now and I only used Dayton's as H9 stated. Every single thing the speakers did good, they now do better. Area's where they fell a little short, were cleaned up.
I still hate to see all of the pictures on Craigslist, ebay and even here on the forum when SDA's are set-up improperly in regards to room placement.
Carry on with the non-SDA talk folks!:D -

Hmm...I have the xovers that came with the Peerless tweets out already...maybe I should modify them before I install them with the tweets, JB Weld the magnets on the MW's and replace the stock gaskets with Mortite. Get it all in one go and maybe I won't have to do anything again lol.- Jeremy

Over the weekend, I was able to score a brand-new pair of Energy RC-10 (in black) from wwstereo.com (authorized Energy retailer) for $240.00. I have never heard them, but based on the opinions I've read online, both from professional reviewers and owners, the RC-10 should be quite a speaker. As an owner of Energy's Connoisseur C-3 and C-1, these RC-10 has a lot to live up to. Also, as someone living on minimum wage for at least a couple of months, the purchase was quite decision to make....but I can't pass up on the deal. Energy's RC series, from what I see, may just be Energy's last shot at high-end as Klipsch seems to be in the process of dismantling the brand.
