check this out. I stumble into this pic. and thought perhaps this should be the future of speakers? external xo, cabinets, and drivers, should be all separate components so one can upgrade them individually.

thoughts?

I know Salk speakers offers an external crossover option....but it's pricey.

It was also noted that the speaker next to it, although it appears to look like a Sonus Faber Cremona (but the feets definitely not, since mine doesn't look like that) or Amati (which is not either, since SF never put a port in front), is a DIY. Kudos to the guy nevertheless, I wish I have his talents.

Beautiful job on the DIY speaker cabinets and x-over. I agree that it would be great to have the x-overs external so upgrading, etc. would be easier. Unfortunately it's probably a feature only important to a small part of the market, this it's not going to change any time soon.

Wish I had more time to play in the shop, because DIY speaker building really intrigues me. There's lots of places to order custom x-overs from, so that would let me focus on the cabinet building, which is something I would enjoy.

Too bad those inductors are positioned incorrectly. I hope he compensated for that in the crossover. And the thought of Solen caps + Mundorf resistors together...

    IIRC, those are SF clones.

External crossovers seem like a good idea to keep the internal vibrations of the cabinet from upsetting the crossovers.

Face, didn't you do an external modded x/o for your LSi15, if remembered correctly?

Nope, I managed to barely fit everything inside.

I've dropped the ball on DIY projects before(wrong polarity, inductor position not optimized, etc...) but a goof like that needs to be fixed.

I don't care if the case is too small. Either cut a hole and flip certain coils on their sides or rebuild the PCB. Why someone spent so much time and money only to cut a corner is beyond me.

Although I gotta say, it looks damn good!
