Well I went and did it again. If I had not found such a spectacular deal on these I would have not gotten them. The sound on these is real smooth on these and detailed but will have to evaluate further, surprising bass for just an 8" they did come with the stands but no spikes or feet, easily fixed I will make a set of both tomorrow at work. Really great shape, no holes or tears in the grills, few marks that will probably clean out, wood in good condition. Now the RTA15tl in a few weeks.

I just got done cleaning the grill cloth with my steam cleaner and it made a difference, not only in looks it seems it made them sound clearer as well, or I could have smoked too much crack again, lol. they didn't look that bad but the watter was dirty that came off of them.

Vandy 3c's are definitely in my future. How do you like your 1's and how do they compare to what you have?

I think you will love the Vandersteen 1's. I have a pair and they are one of my favorites.

I read once that "audiophiles" don't buy Vandersteens, but "music lovers" and musicians do.

They really do sould like music rather than speakers.

    Enjoy!

They sound really good, better than the energy c-3 book shelfs I was using. Not harsh everything sounds the way it should good staging, I just got home and put the spikes I made at work today and I am anxious to see how they sound now. Not better than the 2.3 or 2.3tl's and will have to wait for a rainy day to compare a-b to everything else I have. but for the 90 bucks I spent on them well worth that and then some.

    Hi Zarrdoss,

First post and newbie on Club Polk!

I also own a pair of Vandersteen 1C's. Exact same ones as yours. Curious, how much you paid for them?

The Vandy 1 has been in production for about 20+ years. The first model 1 did great and still around. The 1B was a somewhat limited run possibly around the early 90's and that run didn't last that long. It actually got a bad review for the tweeter and resonance. Maybe it wasn't that bad, but a bad review can do wonders for killing a model. Anyways, your 1C is the most current production with a new tweet design inside and the most popular. It alleviated a lot of the issues with the 1B and somewhat sounds like the original model. Not too familiar with Polks, yet, but think the difference in the 1B and 1C is akin to the SL2000 and RDO tweets.

    Hope this helps!

BTW, while I like the midrange and tweets on the 1C's, the bass isn't as good as I had hoped. Sounds like you are liking them though? You mentioned you were getting a pair of RTA 15T and curious how the bass compares between the two for you? Actually very curious!

I have a pair of KEF Q80's that have decent bass but the midrange on my Vandersteen 1C are much better. Hoping that the RTA 11T or 15T would have better bass.

I did really like these and got them for a hell of a deal, I got a offer I could not refuse and sold them, The bass from the RTA 15tl smokes the Vandersteens. Bass on the RTA 11t's are even better, not a big problem for me as I always use a sub. but for 95% of 2 channel listeners a sub is not needed with the RTA15tl's.

Wow, you got them for $90? That WAS a good deal! Sorry, didn't see that before.

Thanks you've confirmed what I had hoped in regards to bass differences. Appreciate it!
Not a sub fan myself so thanks for mentioning it and it really wets the appetite for me with a pair of RTA's....
I think I'll be selling my 1C's and keeping my Q80 for now and look around for the RTA 11's or 15's.

Btw, were you saying that the 11T bass is better than your 15TL? Or just better than the 1C?

the 11t bass was better than the Vandersteens, I'm going to wait until the mods on the 15tl are complete and broke in before doing a real comparison.
