Speakers for the Kitchen

Need some help trying to decide on a pair of speakers for the kitchen. I will be using my pio vsx-d602s to power them and will be listing mostly to radio or cd. Trying to stick to a budget of $75-$100. Was thinking about a pair of atrium 45 vs RT-5 vs RT-25i vs M10 vs r150 ???. They don't need to be new. I currently have a pair of RT-25i in a HT setup to use as a comparison but don't necessarily want another pair. Wouldn't mind scoring a good deal on ebay. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on any options. Thanks

    I've had my eye on some of the Atrium's for sale at the polk direct ebay store.. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.. but thats what i was gonna do for the bathroom or kitchen system (I hadnt decided what to do yet)

    Jason thanks for the reply. Have you had a chance to listen to the Atriums and if so how would you compare them to your R15?

    For $100 I would try find some rti4

    The 4's sound amazing whilst being fed a signal thats less than perfection

    Thanks polkfarmboy for the suggestion. Hadn't even looked at those. Have spent a little time reviewing them and see that they are used a lot as rears but also get good marks for non Ht use. A couple of concerns I have rti4's so far are there size (how far the will stick out from the wall-wife factor), the cost of speaker mounts, and trying to find a pair for under $100....There are a couple on ebay for over $100 right now and from what I have read they are probably worth it. But part of the "fun" of this project was to stay in the budget I set unlike my last project were I went way over my budget.

    GreggC I call dibs on any rti4 that come up for less than $100 on PF or Ebay....:D:D:D

    On a related note... any recommendations on a small-ish integrated receiver that is suitable for kitchen? Ideally it could mount under-cabinet, but I think this is something that won't be able to be found. Still, it needs to be small and inconspicuous. I need minimum an AUX for mp3 players and FM tuner.

    I have a 90's Technics receiver that would work and isn't too big. However, the WAF factor is high due to this being her domain.

    Do they make integrated amps with tuners built in?

    Newegg has the M30's on sale for $99.99; I had a pair and they're great for that price. Don't know if they'll be too big for you or not.

    Already have Atrium 4's in the kitchen (thanks again Polk Audio!). I need a way to power them that has a tuner and mp3 player AUX input. I have an Accurian amp that works fine for these as an amp so a separate pre/tuner would work too. I can stick the Accurian out of the way and mount the pre/tuner under a cabinet. However, I don't see one that is easy to mount. I guess I could get a used Adcom pre/tuner, but it may be too big to look nice.

    If it were me, I would go 4 speakers in ceiling. Nice kitchen by the way.

    If you use 4 speakers in 1 room area wire them in a criss cross fashion so where ever you are you will be listening to stereo.

    I thought about in ceiling but was concerned about "spot" sound. It may have been the speakers I was listening to (not polk) but it seemed like when you stood under the speaker it was load and you couldn't hold a conversation with someone not under the speaker (They asked me why was I yelling at them and I was saying you need to speek up:confused:). Do the Polk in ceiling speakers spread the sound out? If they do which would be a good choice?
