Hey guys,
Of the Epik Empire or SVS PB-13 Ultra, which do you think would be better? The SVS has a ridiculously well-built driver, but the Epik has dual fifteens in an interesting push/pull configuration. The Epik is half the cost of the SVS. So technically, I could get the dual Empire option, but let's not go there just yet. I'm looking at just one sub, I think . . . for now.
Mike
PS
My dual Polk MicroDSW Pro 3000s will be up for sale if I decide to upgrade. I wonder how much of an upgrade it would be?

No no no . . . I thought the same thing, but I can't buy them both -

I had the SVS PB plus/2 before my dual 4000's and I like the dual 4000's better. It doesn't dip as deep but the overall SQ is better IMO. I'm not a big fan of the new Empires. The driver look very cheap and people have had problems with placement. I'd say it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. -

Yeah, my thoughts are the same on the Empire drivers. The SVS driver looks amazing. I don't even know why I am looking at subwoofers. The Polks I have are the best sub configuration I have ever owned. I have never been more happy for both Music and Movies. I'm an idiot. But, I keep flipping pages anyway. -
The empire 15" drivers look like they are stamped steel baskets. The svs ultra 13 is a die cast aluminum basket.Doing a side by side visual the epic driver is no where near the svs build quality. The svs ultra driver weighs 55 LBS.The svs also looks almost as deep as it is wide.

SVS is a beast though and has insane output. The dual Empires would be nice, output would be relatively close. CS at SVS is top notch so should a problem arise your taken care of, and they have been in the game for some time. I'd love to try the Empires but having to pick, SVS will be the last sub you need.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Yes the drivers in the empire is not as good as the svs but for the price you can get dual empires cheaper than one ultra. -

One thing I've learned in this hobby is get as much speaker as you can afford. It usually saves money in the long term. If you have the space, go for the SVS. You won't be disappointed.

I have a friend that just purchased the Empire. He's heard my Ultra many times. I posted some of his initial comments in the Empire thread in Subs, but I'll have to ask him what he thinks about an Ultra/Empire comparison. To paraphrase, the Empire hits extremely hard without the down low rumble of his Tempest DIY Sono. It's very musical and still flexes walls in his 3000 cube room.
The Ultra shares many of those characteristics and in ported mode, needs to be tamed down low in some rooms. Gain can make it sound fat, but, properly setup it's not.
