So the ad says they are 1984 Vandersteen model 2/2C and they are looking for 375.00 for them. These are the only thing like them I have ever found local to me. I am wondering if 1. These would be worth even taking a look at, and 2 if anyone has any idea whats a good price on these?
He says he would include 15 feet of Kimber cable which is interesting as I really didn't think anyone around here even knew about this kind of stuff. ( I live in a town of 25,000 or so and a lot of it is young college kids).

I've been looking at some two channel speakers and if these would be a decent buy I might do it. Hi Fi heaven in Green Bay has some newer models however I have never heard them but they claim they are a very nice speaker.

I don't think they'd be any better than your A9's pulling 2ch duty. Good speakers, but they are a very early version, nothing wrong with that, just getting long in the tooth. They need some decent power, and will have a more laid back sound than your 9's. The use GREAT drivers, and make use of a simple, first order crossover. The have a rear firing bass radiator, so placement is touchy as far as distance from the rear wall to get them just right. Fun speakers, every audionut should own a pair of Vandy's in their audio journey - whether or not you keep them or move them on down the road is totally up to you broham.

I'd sleep better at night if I knew you got them for closer to $300, so you have room to get out of them when and if. That being said, the price is fair, but right at the top of the market for that particular version.

    Cheers,
    Russ

great speakers, I owned them and loved em, sold them...and miss em.

I wouldnt buy em back for 375.00 Russ calls it right for 300.00. if you offer that to him cash, he'll take it, and you have a better chance breaking even if you sell em down the road.

thanks for the info guys. I sent him a message last night and will try calling him. The post is old, but with where I live, honestly I don't think he's going to move them any time soon. I'm going to see if he's willing to let me listen to them first before I acutally buy.
The only thing though is, do the drivers tend to wear out? such as are they surrounded by foam that can degrade over time or is it like an SDA driver that doesn't really wear out?

I kinda like the dahlquist DQ-10's for the $375 - $450 price range
They are also "time aligned" - "phase array" speaker design concept.

...and you are absolutely correct that these older speaker are exposed to
the deterioration of the foam surrounds and air leakage....

Russ might remember better, but I am pretty sure the driver surrounds are all rubber and not a big worry in terms of age. wouldnt surprise me as they were a very well put together speaker.

sweet thanks for the info guys. He hasn't responded to my attempts to go look at them so who knows. I think he might be a college professor in the music department so if its him, he does take very good care of his gear, however would be super firm on the price....go figure.
