i have the following polk audio speakers...
floorstanding RTi8
surround fxi3
center CSi5
bookshelf RTi6

i just bought a 55" tv and since it's a lcd tv, i cannot put the center speaker on top of the tv. i cannot also put the tv on the center speaker or else the tv will be too high (in my opinion). my question is can i put the center speaker on the floor next to the tv and on its side?

thank you for any comments or suggestions.

yes, but you will have to turn your head sideways to get the correct imaging.:p
Try it and let us know the results, I can say it "should" be positioned correctly above or below the T.V.

the center speaker on the tv cabinet and the tv placed directly on the center speaker... is it a good idea? how high can the tv be? is there a restriction like eye-level?

i will try to attach a picture later but here is some info about the heights...
the tv cabinet is about 20" and the center speaker is about 7.5". with the speaker on the tv cabinet, the tv will be 27.5" from the floor and tops at 61.5" (the height of the tv is 34").

also, if i put the tv on the center speaker, should i put the center speaker inside a 3-sided box as in the attached picture because of the magnetic shield?

Can you source a single 18-24 inch speaker stand, and place it in front of the screen (obviously low enough to not interfere with the image).

    Cheers,

Keep it in front of the TV but check out the Lovan M2 center stand. See my pics in the showcase, sold on Amazon for very cheap and will get you the imaging you need for center speaker dialogue. When I had my center on the floor turned up it sounded flat and just terrible. On the stand I can aim for the listening position and it is much better.

I experienced something similar and also went to positioning the center speaker on a stand in front of where the TV is mounted- in my case over a fireplace.

I ended up buying a computer monitor stand from IKEA.... you choose the shape of the base (they only had half round and square when I went) and buy the legs (they have a few different lengths) - I chose a half round and then bought 8" legs. I think it is a great height to clear the center (I have the CS10 which is 7"), but my TV is only 40" so it doesn't put it up too high, imo...... It would be very easy to make a shelf or stand that matches your tv stand. I have kids and a dog, so a speaker on the floor wasn't an option for me. I don't think that there is a "too high" unless it is uncomfortable to look at from your seat.

my tv cabinet is 20" high. i think i will make a box (about 10" high) to place the center speaker and placed my tv on the box (see one of the previously attached pictures). so the tv will be 30" from the floor.

as jemrey81 mentioned, i don't think there is a "too high" height because some people put their tv on a wall-mount and usually it's higher than 30".
