From the day I moved to Georgia, till know I have heard if you go to North Carolina you can get furniture at a GREAT price.

Can anyone back this claim up?
Where do you go? Is there a certain area the manufactures are located? Is it worth the effort?

I Know here in Georgia, Dalton is the carpet capitol (or so they claim) and you can save some money.

Anyway thanks for any info.

It's sort of a half truth...

If you go to the Hickory Furniture Mart...or whatever they call it...it's a HUGE place, but in the end, not much cheaper than you can get at home.

You can save money, however, if you shop around. It's not going to be at the big factory stores though. There are a lot of smaller mom and pop places with good deals on closeouts and things of that nature...

The lovely Wendi and I went and we had a leather sofa custom made with the finest leather you can buy for about half of what we could have got if for locally. We had to shop around, wait 3 months and go pick it up but we saved over 2 grand (we also bought 2 chairs)....

Russ, shoot me an email and let me know what, in general you are looking for and the lovely Wendi and I can tell you what our experiences were...

I've heard there are some outlets where pretty much you wander around a small warehouse and when you spot what you want you tell someone you want the couch under those other three and they tell you that you will have to get it out if you want it. I'm not sure if they exist in NC but I know they do in certain parts of WV. It's been almost 10 years since I've been to one but there is some truth to the rumour. If you pull up to a mini mall with a lot of advertising and new stores with marble floors and classy furnishings, it says "Brand Name Furniture Closeout" and you see well dressed salesmen then "IT AINT THE RIGHT PLACE!"

I have a good friend who can get furniture DIRT cheap. He hooked up this couple with a $5000 bedroom suite for like $3000 or something ridiculous like that. Good quality furniture too! Whenever I need something I go through him. It's nice to have connections...:D

That is the way it is in Dalton and the carpet, you have to hit the small places and find the closeout deals.

We buy all of our furniture from a company call Gibson Furniture. They are in Andrews NC. A small town in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. I find the furniture I want...give them a call...and they can usually order it a lot cheaper than I can buy retail. They can get most major brands. Plus they deliver for free (of course I live just over the mountain in East Tennessee). The only drawback is that we usually have to wait for 4 to 6 weeks for them to get it in...but the savings are worth it. I have purchased 80% of my furniture from them over the last 20 years.

I have been to the big furniture mall at Hickory, NC. The plus is that there is probably more furniture there in one building than anywhere else . Three or four floors of nothing but furniture showrooms. Prices are ok but not outstanding, but they have most anything you can imagine (or can get it) and most of it is quality stuff... not
