Carver Amp owners who used them Mono

I know there's a few members who use their Carver amps in Mono to power their speakers and I was curious if you used a Y-adapter to utilize both RCA inputs on the amp or if you didnt use a Y-adapter..
The manual says you should, but i'm concerned about putting a $15 or less Y-adapter inbetween my $100 IC's and the amp
What do you do? Thanks!
Jason

Call Frank at Signal Cable;

He'll make you are real nice set of 'Y' connectors at the length you wish. Tell him you are a member of Polk Forum and he'll give you a discount.
I had a set made that were 6" long when I biamp'd my 1.2TLs and he did a beautiful, quality job. I think it cost about $75 but it is worth every penny. -

hrmm, ok. Thanks for the suggestion! So he basically would build-in the Y-adapter to the end of the IC? That sounds pretty cool...

Tell him exactly what you want to do and he'll make the appropriate terminations on the 'Y' connector. Mine had a male RCA on the side that pluged into the preamp and two female RCAs where the ICs plugged into. BTW he uses very heavy wire, shielding and casings as well as using really good gold plated RCA jacks and plugs. -
The best way to do this is to use the speaker outs. I do not know how this should be done with your amp, but a typical scenario would be to use the + output of the left channel and the - output of the right. Do not attempt this without letting someone else that has done this explain it better. You can also do a Google search "Carver (your amp here) bridged mono" and you will find the information you need.The Gear... Do you have two TFM-42s? The bridged mono setup will only allow an 8 ohm load IIRC. If you have two, then feed the lows thru one amp, L & R; and the highs thru the second amp. You will get more distortion in a bridged mono setup. The Y connectors should be used from the preamp to the two amps only if you don't have two preamp outputs.>

I am getting a second TFM-42, the manual just wants you to use one IC from each Left and Right Pre-out on the preamp, but use a Y-cable to connect to both Left and Right RCA inputs on the amp. Then connect the red terminals from both channels (on each amp) to the respective speaker, and hit a switch thats on the back to make it go Mono versus Stereo..
so you think that would yield more distortion? I'll have to google around about sending high's and low's through different amps..

It depends on the load that the Plats present to the amps. Anything less than 8 ohms may be an issue in bridged mode. I have used vertical biamping on my 2.3tls using two TFM-55s but used the gain knob to reduce the power to the tweets. The 42 does not have a gain knob which may be something to consider.>
