And now for a quickie review...
Volume: Kind of medium. I honestly don't think the output is high enough. I had to turn my receiver to 70/80 to get sufficient floor-shaking sound.
Sound Quality: 8/10... Its quality was only effected by the fact that I had to turn my receiver up so loud that I got some hissing.
Build Quality: 9/10... Built heavily, has vents in the back to keep it cool (only cd deck I've seen with 'em... maybe because of it's age?). Matches my graphic eq's screen color perfectly. CD tray is a little bulky, but it works, so that's okay. Has headphone jack (which I'll never use), and a remote!
Overall: 8/10... Definately worth the $55 I paid for it... Kind of funny, though. The CD deck is branded as BSR, but on the packaging warning sheet included with it (original!), they use the DAK name. Just goes to show how interchangeable the names were. Overall, a very nice player...

I have it connected via analog into my graphic EQ, which then sends it through to the receiver, same as all my other stuff.

If you want to really hear the difference of the BSR's dac's vs your old Sharp deck, don't run it through the eq, run them direct, and compare.
I'm not knocking your EQ, but I wouldn't give much credence to sound quality flowing through the $.10 transistors in an RCA eq.
Glad to hear it arrived in-tact. CD players shipped are a crap shoot sometimes.

I'll have to listen to it running straight through... thanks. As for the shipping... the guy I won it from was great. First, he had the original warning sheet about shipping taped to the top of the deck. He had the original transport screws installed as well (this is probably what saved it from destruction...). All in all, a nice guy. Plus he refunded me $7 that I paid extra when the insurance came out lower than expected....

Okay, it sounds much better as a standalone source w/o the eq. Guess the eq just isn't tuned right, or is just too cheap...

*smacks head with nearest table...*
I had input attenuating running on my amp because of the graphic EQ.... turned it off and the deck sounds 110% better. I ran it for 6 hours straight yesterday, and it did it all without complaint.

DOH!
Big difference in one, '1-bit' dac, and dual 20 bit dacs, eh?
I figure you'll keep that bad boy until the laser dies. Good on ya.

I'm not sure where you're getting the "dual 20bit" part, 'cause the book says it has one 16bit DAC. Either way, it still sounds better than the old Sharp :P

I thought that was what the 2020 stood for, no? I could be wrong, I was wrong once back in '82.

All I know about this deck is what is in the book... I haven't been able to find anything about it on the 'net... Here's what the book says:
Sampling Frequency- 88.2 kHz (2 FS)
Error Correction System- CIRC Double Error Correction System
D/A Conversion- 16 bit linear
This isn't all it says... just what's under "Signal Format"
Not to point out that you're wrong or anything... 'cause I can't second this info in any way...

Oh, I see now.
See, it goes like this, you take the sampling rate, and divide by the FS, the take the square root of the dac, and double it minus 3.1428571, place a river rock from Colorado on top, and finally put in a cd with 20 tracks on it, viola! Dual 20 bits dacs?
Make sense?

what happens if you throw in an mp3 that has been burned at a blistering above FS??? would it then be a Dual 20 bit upsampling dac?
