Although i can't call myself a big fan by any means.. we try and go to the symphony a couple times a year.

there is something magical listening to real music.. esp if it's being lead with a good vocalist.

Next month Natalie Cole is putting on a performance with our local symphony.. and I'm thinking of going.

Seen Natalie Cole in concert about 8 - 9 years ago shortly after her CD Unforgettable came out.

Now she's touring to support her follow up CD that was released a few years ago. Still Unforgettable

I guess she does pop/jazz vocal music standards is the best way to classify her music.. which isn't music I listen to very often.. but I do enjoy quite a bit now and then. THink of Frank Sinatra music.. that era.

Anyone else here enjoy the symphony, if so why?

I don't go nearly as often as I'd like but yes the symphony is fantastic. There is true magic when that many musicians together make such compelling sound. And the live experience is sooooo much better than hearing it on even the best home rigs. I have still yet to hear Vivaldi's Four Seasons played live. My favorite classical piece, I've seen it on video a few times but I want to experience it live. The violin solo's are just so great.

Growing up, my parents took us the the symphony about once a month. It wasn't my favorite at the time, but I grew to appreciate it.

My wife and I usually get a 5 show package to see the LA Philharmonic summer series at the Hollywood Bowl. It's cool because it is outdoors and you can picnic, but unless you are sitting relatively close, a lot of the sound is lost because it is open air. Still all in all, I enjoy going.

    She inherited "THE VOICE."

On one of my LP covers of Nat King Cole it says, "there was a voice and the voice was touched by God and He put in Nat King Cole!"

Al I hope you get to experience the hologram of Nat singing a duet with Natalie singing, "Unforgettable!"

If that doesn't raise two inch goosebumps and choke you up, turn in your human being card!;):D

I was a bit spoiled, as my sister played violin through college, and with a couple of local symphonies as well. Always a great show, but I'm biased b/c I had a family member up there :)

Enjoy the show Danger; about guaranteed to be a good time!

And the most memorable show for me was when my sister's college orchestra played Carmina Burana with the Charlotte Symphony many years ago. I took a couple of friends that were definitely NOT refined gents, and they loved it....They did have some sleepy moments in the middle, but the beginning and end had all of them gaping mouth in astonishment. Made me proud :)

IMHO there is nothing like attending a full orchestra symphony concert, especially the classics. I've been to quite a few around the country and it was always an exhilarating and spiritual experience.

welp. the concert was really good... Natalie Cole came out with a long blue dress and looked great.. started out with several standards that her father was well known for. She talked a little bit about having great singers like Sinatra around the house when she was growing up.

Natalie is one of the few singer I know of that still sounds as good as she did 30 years ago. her voice is strong, smooth and she has such great control over it, it's amazing to listen to her. very few singers have a comand of their voice like she does. Those subtle and quiet parts of the song she sang really shows a person's restraint. Those soft notes are just a difficult to control as really belting out those powerful notes. today's singers don't know how to evoke emotion in their songs like the old crooners did.

People have often called Natalie Cole a living legend... she certainly lived up to that last night. ;)

I haven't been in a long time, but my fiance definitely wants us to go to see the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra sometime...she also wants me to take her to an opera someday.
