Question for Onkyo 807 (maybe more) owners

Well....

I hope it's not just mine, but I am having a problem. While I am watching movies or TV shows, on some more than others, the sound will shut down, the relays clack, and Dialog Norm + some db amount, will come up on the display. All of this happens in just a second or so, and then it's back to normal....until it does it again.

I swear I have been though the manual with a fine-toothed comb and can find no reference to any Dialog(?) settings.

A friend was watching with me Sat night when it did it about 6 times in a one hour show. He thought that it wasn't picking up a signal at the time and was adjusting some parameter or another. I actually agree with that because it seems to happen more on "quiet" shows. I just watched 2 episodes of The Pacific back-to-back and it didn't happen once.

So... does this happen to anyone else? Am I just missing the part in the manual? Is it in the firmware (I haven't hooked up the ethernet cable yet, because I had to Acquire the cable and I still don't have the ends)? Or is this something that it just does?

It is not enough for me to want to get rid of it, but it is annoying as all hell.

As always.. any thoughts or advice is always appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

I have the 807, never had that issue...

There have been 3 firmware updates since it came out, it's worth a try..

Also AVS has a good thread on the 807

    well thanks ababro..

that did actually contain the answer, along with more questions than I want to think about.
Thanks much..although after reading about Dialog Normalization, you have probably experienced it.

    Thanks again....

All dialog normalization does is raise or lower the global volume. It's nothing to worry about. It's just displayed on the front of your 807 when it locks on to the bitstream, so if there's a glitch that causes a dropout and it has to reacquire the bitstream, you'll see the dialnorm on the display again.

The firmware updates since launch for the x07 line should address the intermittent dropouts. I used to have the occasional random dropout with cable on my 1007, but the first firmware upgrade I did took care of it.

Now that I think about it, it only happens when watching the satellite..even on something I dvr'd. I reckon I need to order me some ethernet ends.....
