Do you think they get pissed off when they find out how much money the pawn shop got for the item?

that's why i never buy or sell anything to a pawn shop. rip offs.

i'd rather sell it on craigs instead of dealing with a pawn shop.

Back in the days before shop owners had access to the internet....ebay etc where they could tell the value of something. There were deals to be had on occasion. Like a Kramer Baretta (guitar) for $125, worth 4 times that. These days the deals are harder to come by in my experience.

They are in business to make money. And they have to sell the item. It seems that they contact local "experts" for certain evaluations just like anyone could do. I would never sell anything that I knew nothing about...especially if great value was possible. If someone wanted to sell you a $500 (real value) item with the idea that you will sell for a profit later...how much would you pay? Especially considering that you might not sell it for 6 months? I have seen items on their shelves that have been there since 1st season.

I enjoy the show, seems to be trying to help the image of Pawn Shops, I picked up a nice pair of polk's on the cheap once at one, but the shop looked nothing like the one on the show.

I like the show a lot. I can't believe what people bring into the shop looking for thousands of dollars when it is worthless.

gotta pay the loan sharks fast....the show is in Vegas afterall. That is the only reasoning I can come up with for people that are selling what they are selling for the amount they are selling it for.

A lot of the time the price the expert comes up with are auction prices. Auctions don't happen every day, there are listing fees and comissions to be paid and there might not be anyone intrested at the auction to place a bid.

Love this show and also "American Pickers" but cmon, these episodes have to be set up! Being taken on national TV without a clue? It boggles the mind. " I will give you $2 for that 1900 Coca-Cola bottle" then turn around and sell it for $200? These people cant be that dumb. (or can they be?) LOL. Just my .02 cents. Love it though.:D

I haven't seen Pawn Stars yet, but did see a couple American Pickers episodes and I thought the same thing--wondering if the seller's watch the show later to find out what the Pickers sold it for.
But heck some of the people they bought stuff from seemed more like Hoarders so wouldn't have made any efforts to sell it on their own anyway, so in a sense they probably don't care that the pickers made a profit and they got some cash for what would have eventually just rusted away.

I guess its kind of like those shops that are setup just to sell your stuff on eBay for you--Where you don't have the time to deal with the ebay selling hassles but just want some quick cash--knowing full well the item will be sold at a higher price than what you got for it.

Yeah, American Pickers. That show is funny. They try to make junk picking look like a rockstar profession or some kind of extreme sport!

I heard an interesting thing about pawnshops yesterday. They are currently a very good place to buy used contractor grade tools on the cheap. Reason: The housing market went south and so did the related construction jobs (many contractor workers have to supply their own tools). Tools were cashed in by out of work construction workers needing to make that month's ends meet.

    Toolheads take note!
