Slight noise from lsi speakers

I have 9.2 set up. My speakers are all lsi series and I have xpa 2 fro my L/R ( lsi 25 ) and xpa 5 for my C ( lsi C )and surrounds A/B ( lsi 9 -- 4 pieces ) and upa 2 for my (lsi/fx) surrounds back. I guess I have excellent set up. But there is something bothering me about which is the buzzing coming from each speaker specially surrounds A/B ( lsi 9 ) powered by xpa 5. I aleready tried everything including electrical power distribution and I still hear noise from speakers. I can hear this noise if my ear touches the coil of the drivers and not from any of my listening positions.

Can anyone tell me if this noise is normal? It looks like it is an electrical sound. Also, noise is only heard if the system is on. Furthermore, I already tried connecting my apms directly to the electrical outlet on the wall and connecting them to power surge and yet this noise still persists.

Please advise me what to do.

Not sure if you problem is same problem i had., but i had a hum coming from my sub. i bought a ground loop isolator and now its gone. somehow the circut is broken when a isolator is installed and breaks the circut.

Radio Shack only had isolators for cars.i bought mine on amazon . i needed a hook up for cable. I attached the isolator to my cable box, works fine. just google ground loop isolator and you will get lots of info.the viewsonic i bought was $25.00 very affordable.I also just bought a channel master amplifier.its attached to the cable line comming in, its splits the signal and boost. its a digital distribution amplifier. Channel Master's CM 3418 .

But in my case, I have 9.2 set up. will that mean that I need to buy 9 isolators to stop the buzz/hum on my speakers? I am only asking, my new friends. And what kind of isolators do i need to buy?

I think what the guys are trying to tell you is that the most common cause of a ground loop is your cable line to the TV. In that case all you need is ONE ground L. Isolator because that is what is passing into your AVR/amps and from there to the speakers.

If that is your problem this should solve it. If that's not it. It won't.

That`s a hard question to answer. If you do have a ground loop problem ,then you have to figure out with which equipment. Thats the hard part. I disconnected the cable and the hum went away, i new that was my problem and connected the isolator to the caBLE GOING into the cABLE BOX.

If the cable box is the one causing this problem, how come that whenever my speaker cables are directly connected to my avr 5308, there is no any noise coming from any of my 9 speakers? Also, I tried to disconnect the my satellite wire from the power surge and disconnecting also the cable from the back of my cable box, the problem still persists.

Please tell me more about how to resolve this irritating noise from my speakers before my mind gets damaged.

Hmmm that does sound like it might be one of your Emotiva amps. You did say that you tried connecting all of them to the wall sockets directly, no? If I'm not mistaken that is what Emotiva recommends?

You will have to isolate which component it is in the same way. There are some other devices that help with ground loop problems...I'll check my files...

Adding to this story: I have two sets of home theaters in my house. the first HT is composed of lsi series powered by emotiva products, my amps ( 9.2 set up) with avr 5308 as my pre amp and the second HT is composed of monster thx series powered by onkyo 906 without amps.

The issue is that I don't have noise from my second HT, but I have noise from my first HT.

So please advise me what to do and I will follow it before it will destroy my mind.

There are a number of equipment GLEs....one is the ebtech Hum-X which allows you to plug it between the device and the wall socket. I've never used these devices since my problems have usually been cable related. But you might want to try one...or something similar?

What I was suggesting is that you REMOVE all Emotivas from any power surge supply and plug them directly into wall sockets and see if that does anything.

Or is that what you are saying...Supposedly, Emotivas have their own current surge protection? I suspect the amps are interfering with each other.

BTW....you have some nice pieces there. Two flagships: a Denon and the Onkyo.

They have beed plugged in directlly to the wall and yet the noise continues to irritate my ear.

I have you tried swapping out your interconnects? Probably not it though since you are hearing it from every channel. Can't be your avr if you don't hear the noise when speakers are ran directly through it. Try using a different surge protector. If some things are still plugged into it, it may be still interfering. Definitely don't plug your Emotiva amps into the surge protector. They have their own built surge protection. Did you try the ground loop isolator yet? Other than that, call Emotiva and have a chat with them. Maybe they can suggest some things or maybe they will conclude that one of your amps have an issue. Have you tried hooking up those amps to your other HT system? If the problem persists then you know what the problem is.

I have the same issue with my XPA-5 and this really helped my problem. What I have decided the issue is with mine is that there is a slight hum in the amp that is in turn sent to the speakers. Before I changed out my IC's and made sure they weren't near any power cords, it was audible while sitting down and even during quiet movie scenes. Now I have to actually put my ear to my speaker to hear it so it doesn't bother me.

I already tried everything suggested to me, and I already called emotiva and I was told that there is nothing that they can do since the noise is only heard whenever my ear is less than 1 ins away from the speakers.

Lucklly I found the cause of the noise. The said noise from the speakers is only generated if the interconnects are connected to avr but if it is removed, the buzz/hum is gone. The question now is how will I listen to the music if the interconnects are disengaged from the reciever? or Do I need to use different interconnects? Where can I buy these different interconnects?

That's also my findings. I removed the interconnects and the noise disappeared. I think I have to buy different interconnects to see if the problem will continue to persist. By the way, What local electronic store can I buy interconnects?

Buying a couple of the ground loop isolators and running them between the AVR and amp might work. You could always return them if it didn't work. Many places to get IC's, but get some that are well shielded. www.signalcable.com is a good choice. Also check auidiogon.com for some used cables. You can often get a good deal from someone who is upgrading.

Although it's made for autos, I've used the $16.99 one with success in my home. As I said, if it doesn't work you can always return it.

You can't beat the price and if it solves your problem then you have found yourself a rather inexpensive fix. If it solves your problem and your one of those guys that have to have uber expensive cables then at least you can upgrade without wasting X amount of dollars if it wasn't the problem in the first place. I initially bought sidewinders but bought these for comparisons sake and to be very honest, they sound every bit as good as the sidewinders, so I just returned the sidewinders.

Those look like a good choice. I have some IC's from monoprice that I don't really like, but these look to be higher quality than the ones I own.

Not all amps are dead silent, so it might just be the amp, the sensitivity of the speakers, and your sensitivity to the buzz. Hopefully it's something concrete that you can solve, but maybe it isn't. For your ear to have to be basically touching the driver to hear it, it kind of sounds to me as if this is a non-issue.

Edit: And not all preamps and sources are dead quiet either, for that matter.

You may be right. However, the channel 1/5 of xpa 5 is producing noise 2 inches from the coil and channel 2/4 at least 1 nch away from the speakers. Than's my real problem. Do you think changing the interconnects will solve the issue?
