How to Train Your Dragon - Another Hit.

Took my daughter to see how to train your dragon tonight in 3D. What a great movie. I was not expecting much, but they kocked it out of the park. The 3d was really well done with none of the typical cheesy "Hey look at me" moments.

Story was really well done with plenty of adult laugh out loud moments as well. A really fun movie to take your kids (I would say 7-8 year old +)

Highly recommended. (and currently at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes)

I took my family to the 4:35p show in my neighborhood on Friday. It's rare I ever go to a movie on opening day, but the parking lot was damn near empty so I said what the hey... The only problem was, even though MovieFone listed the movie as playing in 3D in that theater, it wasn't (just 2D). However I wasn't passing up a chance to see a movie on opening day with only a dozen or two others in the theater..

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, as did my kids. Now I can't wait to take them again but next time in 3D.

It's a shame with that theater not having 3D yet. Its a fairly new theater--probably only about 6 or 7 years old. It's rarely ever crowded. Such low volume that most of the time they don't even staff a ticket taker, they just rip the tickets at the ticket booth. I'm waiting for the day they finally close up shop. I hope not because the other 2 area theaters are always jam packed and its only about a mile from my house. If they got 3D in I'd think that would pick up business a bit.

I have not seen a movie in 3d in a long time. (I saw avatar in 2d) I was really shocked at how good the image quality was. It was really sharp and clear (the best I have seen at a movie in a long time - 2d or 3d) and very HD looking. The depth was really good and like I said, well done.

It is one of the few 3d movies that the 3d actually adds to your watching enjoyment rather than is just a distraction. Damn was it expensive though, $19.50 for 1 adult and 1 child ticket.

The theater was pretty full today and about 50/50 adults to kids.

We all laughed about the same times and other times(in which there were many) you could hear a pin drop. I agree, the kids loved it too.

Awsome animation , music and story line.

They showed a preview of some young owls that will be coming out in july and the animation reminded me of Happy Feet. Or at least the EYES. Yep, it's from the same studio.
..I kept thinking they took Happy feet's exact eye program and put them into an owl. I might be able to get past that but I don't know..
..The animation of the owl wings was first rate so that's a pluss.I'll wait for the reviews like I did with How to train your dragon.
..The dragon movie has been out for a few weeks now and the theater was almost full still. That tells you about word of mouth spreading and reviews giving it a 4 or 5 star status.Again, it was worth the 20.00 for my wife and I.

Just saw it again no the BIG screen in IMAX 3D--Just took my 2 boys but it still cost a small fortune.
Again the theater was nearly empty , and I definitely enjoyed the 3D version much better than the 2D version. Except for some reason, and I'm not sure if there is a difference in the 3D glasses between Real3D and IMAX 3D, but the IMAX 3D glasses bothered me a bit-mainly in the left eye--just seemed darker-maybe something related to the polarized lenses-I don't know maybe its just me. I don't recall the Real3D glasses bothering me at all.

Otherwise I'm glad I was able to treat the boys to the 3D version finally--they had a great time.

I think its funny nobody bashes this for its story like everyone is doing with Avatar. I realize this is a kids movie, but the story is so predictable its not funny. I love the CG movies (they are about the only "comedy" movies I can stand nowadays), but I wish they would expand on the generic story lines.

I don't know. Maybe its just as difficult to make a story line for kids as it is to make them a decent video game. Then again, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., and Happy Feet were all fairly original. I guess I was just expecting more due to past successes.

Yeah might be because its a kids movie--I guess if its adult oriented then it has to be 'real'.
I think one difference here is that this movie is based on a successful series of kids books, whereas Avatar and the other CG movies you mentioned were made for the movies.

Its funny , whenever I see a movie like this or Avatar, I can always spot a scene or two where it would fit well into a video game-kinda like they engineered that scene specifically for that purpose. Liek the marketing department is trying to cover all the bases in the movie-the movie itself, the happy meal toys, the video games, etc...

Because Avatar was touted to be some kind of orgasmic experience in the theaters with all this flash-bang wizardry. While it was visually impressive, when you got past all the shiny, it was like watching Cindy Crawford take off her clothes only to see two gigantic birthmarks on her **** that look like Jimmy Durante trying to kiss a moose. It was a big "OMG! WTF?" moment.

HTTYD was nothing of that. They showed some previews of Vikings with Scottish accents and alot of fun action. The jokes were good, the acting was actually quite good and the story, while pedestrian, was executed perfectly. No camp, no cheesy BS to stroke some self-important actor's ego. Just pure, unadulterated fun! It was entertaining and when that happens, the story can be as pedestrian as it wants because the rest of the movie was so engrossing that you were drawn in to it.

Look at the Shrek movies. Very pedestrian as well but one of the highest grossing series of films of all time. Why? The same reasons the overall production quality from the filming to the acting to the writing is top notch and it shows.

Watched the Blu-ray of this Friday night and LOVED IT! Glad I blind-bought it. One of the better looking and sounding discs in my collection, and the movie was a hell of a lot of fun.

It's a little odd that the movie itself is in 5.1, but the Boneknapper short is in 7.1. Still, both are very solid mixes and sounded fantastic on my 9.1 setup.
