I was flipping through the local cable companys music channels and stopped for a minute on the Classic Country channel and I quickly realized they were playing music from the early to mid 80's and I thought to myself that cant be Classic Country.

I was expecting to hear Hank Williams SR or Little Jimmie Dickens and the like then I noticed that the artists all looked different then I remembered them, hell half the men were bald and the women all had wrinkles and thats when it struck me im old

It just kinda snuck up on me I guess because I didndt think of myself as being old :p

REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

My moment of realization happened back in the mid 90's when a local radio station called the Doobie Bro's song "China Grove" a golden oldie.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

A few years ago I heard Cyndi Lauper and Madonna on the Oldies station. In the 80's I only ever heard stuff from the 50s and early 60s (you know like Rock Around the Clock, etc) on the Oldies stations.--I was shocked to say the least and suddenly my back started hurting and joints started aching. Uhg

I think Oldies should be oldies and Classic R&R should be Classic R&R--it shouldn't change as time goes on. The Big Bands of the Big Band Era are still the same Big Bands, the term hasn't morphed over the years to suddenly mean something else. So why should 'Oldies' or Classic County"?

I don't know anything about the club, but there is a wine for Old Farts (and Old Gits, depending on the country), and it's actually quite decent (for its price) the last time I tasted it.

How about the latest "time travel" movie (a hot tub time machine, no less) going "way back" to the '80's? Good grief! I was just there, that's not "way back"!

I can't wait for the golden oldies of grunge. Not over the hill yet here( gotta couple few years yet), just the same the oldies stations up here play music I listened to in high school(early '90s). It's crazy hearing that stuff on the oldies station, crap right now they are playing Bon Jovi from the '90s right now.

During that time, a lot of the 80's music I didn't really care for. What's funny now is that I can appreciate some of it. Like, remember when.

My passion is still the classic rock from the 60's and 70's though. Now those were the days.

I remember the day I was driving down the road with my ten year old son listening to the radio. Given the value I personally place upon hearing good tunes, my children were born into and raised within a very musical household. Anyway, I pointed out this one song playing as being great and he floored me by stating "Yea Dad, I like some of these oldies as well."

    "Oldies???" :eek::eek::eek::eek:

He's now 18 and his sister is 19 and the two often listen to these "oldies!" They not only like them, but the tunes are prevalent within colleges around the nation. :D In the same vein, they have introduced me to some newer stuff that is boss music as well. Stuff that I doubt I would have picked up on on my own or via my peers.

To add to my response above, my kids have done a pretty fair job raiding my music collection. CDs just disappear... Usually, the good stuff. Later on, I spot individual ones in their cars, their bed rooms, etc, etc, etc.

My take on the entire situation is just to let them have what they want and not to get onto them for taking the liberties one's own child often takes with "borrowing" something of this nature from his or her's parent. They've learned some very good musical tastes from me! :D:D:D

I'm replacing the stuff I feel that I must personally own.

It's called respect! You've earned your place, :D. Otherwise the younger set, as they get older, will size you up and openly refer to you in a much poorer manner.

Some time I have to relate to you a true story concerning teens that blew up an outhouse, with **** flying everywhere, on an the old man was in there when the explosion occurred. It concerned an older man these teens did not respect. Hair color did not matter.

They never referred to him as "Sir," "Pop," etc, either.
