Polyurethane on Monitor vaneer?
Was wondering if anyone has put poly on their Monitor speakers? Or any other line? I would like to give them a nice polished look.
Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

You don't get a nice polished look by simply applying a finish, especially a poly finish. The nice polished look is the result of the hard work it takes to properly rub out the finish.Political Correctness'.........defined

I used wipe on poly on my Monitor 10's. Took 1000 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded. Wiped the cabinets down, applied one coat of poly. Used 000 steel wool. Applied 2nd coat. Looks much better now. The wipe on poly leaves no swirl marks and dries in about 30 minutes. I have also brushed it on wood before with excellent results.
Keep in mind this will not give you a nice polished piano finish. But still looks very nice.--Gary--

Darn. I was hoping for that "piano" finish. I think I will still try it though. Halo71, should I assume you used "gloss" poly?Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

I am curious. Have you decided what to use and how to go about finishing your monitors?

Before folks start whipping out the poly.....applying polyurethane over an exsisting finish is not a good idea.Political Correctness'.........defined

I am guessing it will not adhere very well. it might start flaking off after awile. I am still researching how to go about this. I know a pro wood worker and I will see what he thinks.Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

I have not done this work before. Maybe I ought to leave them alone. I don't want to screw them up!Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!
