I am a very big Klipsch fan but I have a chance to buy a set of these speakers but not knowing anything about Polk I come to you for your wisdom!
I am curious how they sound with the big aray of speakers. I am also worried about the condition of the amps. I dont know if it is allowed or not but I am also curious as to the value. Any help would be greatly apprecieated !

you want good solid dependable power for speakers that large. The speakers are LARGE and heavy.. about 185lbs each.. each! to move them from one place to another you usually need an SUV or truck. ;) I've owned a pair before.

value depends on condition of course.. if they are SDA SRS original, value is usually between say $800 and $1400

Welcome to club Polk ! :)

Welcome to Club Polk Davis419b! In addition to what dangerboy wrote above, you need to take into consideration that your amp(s) is common-ground and produces good, clean, high current power. Make sure the speakers come with the SDA interconnect cable. This cable connects the two speakers together to achieve the SDA effect. Also the concensus here is that you go with at least 200 wpc of solid state power or depending on the tube amp 30 wpc. I can't emphasis strongly enough that the amp be of a common-ground design. If you were to use mono blocks, you would have to check with the manufacturer of the amp to see whether or not the negative speaker terminal on each block can be strapped together to achieve common-ground.

These do come with the interconnect cable. Does anyone have suggestions on which amp and preamp to go with so I can determine total cost to make them operate correctly. Wouldnt have it any other way !

Yes, if you would be so kind as to pass on the location if you are not interested that would be great. I am out of work so I have time to travel. As for which amp/preamp works ... its mostly up to your ears and musical tastes as long as you stick to a common ground amp. Thanks!

They sound like big, bad **** speakers.

What amps, the speakers don't come with amps.

    Value runs $1000 to $1500.

    What F1nut said!

With proper amplification and a good sized room these speakers WILL knock your socks off. If you think not much has been said about them. Do a search and see how many dozens if not 100s of threads pop up on this site about these Bad A$$ boys.

But as said...you've got to have MASSIVE power to drive them. What has not been said is that they have the SDA effect--a patent of Matt Polk's for True stereo (SDA-Stereo Dimensional Array)--enveloping sound unlike much of anything you've ever heard before. That's what that interconnect is for. People 'covet' these monsters and some, once they buy these, never 'upgrade' to a different set of speakers again!

Do a quick search and you'll see why it's DEFINITELY worth considering a purchase if they're in good shape at the prices quoted above!

I have about 20 vintage 70's receivers but do not know what a common ground amp is. Would you be kind enough to give me some actual brand name and model number amps with wpc rating if possible. I would like to research and find out what it is going to take to make these sound the way they should. After going to the vintage speaker section and reading some of the info I am definately going to buy these !

    Thanks, Don

They are not going to do the SRS's justice.
what a common ground amp is

A common ground amp shares a common ground between the left and right channels. Examples of non-common ground amps are dual mono and mono block amps.
