This looks interesting, especially considering the price.

Someone in another thread mentioned that they had heard and liked it, and I was curious if any else had heard it, and if so, how do think it compares to the STF-2? I am curious to try it, but might have trouble reselling if i decided not to keep it...

Honestly that sub looks kind of cheap. I'm sure the Hsu would be alot better.

Never heard an Allison subwoofer, but Roy Allison has built some outstanding speakers. He's no longer in business, but you can still get Allison speakers on eBay occasionally. The Allison Ones are the most sought after, of his speakers. I have a pair of Allison AL-115 bookshelf speakers, that need refoaming. I'll do it one day, and find a use for them. I won't sell them. Roy used to be head engineer for AR (Acoustic Research) years ago, until he left and started his own business. To me, Allison speakers are some of the best you can buy. As I said, I've not heard his subs. But knowing how well he did with his speakers, I'm sure the subs are very good too. :)

this is the deal of the day on parts express today. 150 shipped. If its anything like the old dayton es series (which I own the 8 incher) which it looks exactly like, then this is a hard deal to beat for the money.
    Peace,

Roy Allison can design a loudspeaker. After he started RDL and got raves for the "Mini-Monitor", a 6" acoustic suspension two-way, when I was in the area I dropped in to the factory and grabbed a pair. Still have them.

As tempting as it may sound/look, if I thought any of RA's research was present I might bite. But it is a PORTED system, and I don't think he ever messed with those. Pass.

More likely it was designed by Bubba Allison, grandson of the late June Allison.

Great to hear things about some of these companies and their history.

I understand not preferring the ported sub. My main sub is a little mirage dual eight inch sealed, and I love the way it sounds especially with music. But if someone just wanted a little extra boom for movies but a sub that can probably also do pretty well on music, seems like this might be hard to beat for the money. I am passing as well, I just figured I would let everyone know!
    Peace,

I suppose if you were adventurous and are fixed on that price it might be worth a try. PE had a couple PE/HSU or Dayton/HSU subs that took for ever to make it to market, and now seem to be gone. They looked to be along the lines of the STF, and looked interesting at the sale price, but when they were not on sale did not hold much interest. Some of what I heard was ok but was about what you would expect for the price. Only one way to find out.;)
