TSi 500 set up

So I've had my 500s since November and love them. I'm stuck right now having to have them on carpet and that has always bothered me since they have a down firing port. So a couple weeks ago I cut up a 1x12 to put underneith them. I definitely noticed an improvement in the sound. Mid to low sound more defined is the best I can describe it.
But with a flat board on the carpet and speakers on top of that they were wobbly as hell. I could actually see them move when they were playing loud. So I came up with trying to use speaker spikes on the board and make a platform. I used dayton speaker spikes for parts express.

The speakers are solid and are not on the carpet anymore. I spent all off last night A/B testing them. I'm pretty amazed at how much difference in sound there is. My girlfriend was saying "WTF are you doing?" when I was attaching the spikes to the boards and setting them up. But once I got everything set up she said "They sound so much better. How is that possible?" I told her who cares it works! Right?
It doesn't look the greatest but not too bad right now. I'm definitely going to look for some better lumber to use and paint or stain em.

I am starting to find myself that any speaker design or room can be modified to make even a OK speaker sound great!Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

why does this help? i'm trying to comprehend the improved sound benefits of doing it.
are the TSi500's down firing bass port? or back firing port? or??PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

All the TSi line floorstanders (300, 400, 500) are down firing. I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself. My setup is on the second floor, on carpet, and is directly over the garage. The amount of bass lost through the floor is incredible. I've heard my 300's on a hard surface at my parents house and it's night and day different.Chris

Yeah they have down firing ports otherwise, yes this would be pretty pointless.Panny 55-st30 plasma
