with the Passive radiators in this picture? It looks like they are bubbling or something? I've never seen that before on SDA's that I've seen online. Any ideas?

A lot of them do that over time. The passives were covered in a thin foam like material, and over time they can start to separate from the cone, and bubble up like that one.
As far as I know, there really isn't a fix for it, aside from replacing the PR's.The nirvana inducer-

I guess I've never seen any others with this problem and thought it looked strange. thanks for the info.

I've always wondered if they could be peeled off & re-applied with spray adhesive. Anyone try it?

good idea. didn't think of that myself, otherwise are PR for these hard to come by?
-
The bubbles shouldn't affect the sound, but it sure is an eyesore. They pop up every now & then on eBay.
Just had another idea. What about injecting some glue into the bubble with a glue syringe? You'd work it around while flattening out the bubble & the excess would come back out the small hole used to inject the glue. Too much glue would change the mass of the PR & affect the sound, but I don't think the amount of glue that would remain would affect anything. -
well seeing this acution ended and no one bid, I sent them a request to see if I could buy them still. however I offered less than the OP which was 300.00 including shipping due to their condition. We'll see if they send me anything back.

I have a decent pair of 12" SW120 passives here that work in SDA-1A, SDA-1B, SDA-1C and SDA-1 and I'll see if I can dig up the photos.
The SW120 has the thin layer of foam that can bubble as in the for sale speakers above, but the SW121 used in the SDA-2B and SDA-2 is identical without the foam layer. I've compared both and the SW120 has a stiffer feel to it. Mine have no evidence of ever having the silver domed weights glued on the back of the white styro-foam. I don't know if that was different from year to year as is so common with many Polk parts.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

sweetness. I really do hope they answer me back and didn't think I was Low balling. But they are beat up and I also asked if any of the woofers are frozen, so I hope they know what that means. -
In case he accepts, do you plan to have them shipped? That might not be a very good idea......no matter how cheap you get them._________________________________________________

I found them: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82691
Last, based upon my successful 2008 upgrade of my 1986 SDA SRS 2's, the SDA-1B is more valuable than most think as it can be "TL'd" by simply replacing the 4.4uf cap for the top tweeter with a 5.8uf and then adding an RDO-198.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

Because I would have no other choice I would have to, so I would have to discuss how and whom they would be shipped with. They don't offer local pick up if I can remember from the add so I really wouldn't have a choice. -

The ad says, "$100 Flat Rate Shipping." I have no idea how they would be shipped but I would recommend having them crated. -
thats what I was thinking. I was going to see if they would at least get them professionally packaged for me and crated to be shipped. If it gets to be too much in terms of cost I'll just say forget it. I also haven't heard anything back all day so its probably a no-go but we'll see.

A local pair will show up for you, just be patient and keep your finger on the trigger.

Russ is that bubbling a common problem with PRs? This is actually the first time I've anything like it without water involved.

Oh I will. I just thought maybe I could get these for a good deal, but then after thinking about it, it may not be such a good deal after all. -
If you get these shipped-USE FED EX and have the owner mark them as fragile. From experience, go ahead and get tweeters. My M12's were trashed after shipping(dinged corner, bad tweeters).Onkyo TX-SR705 AVR
