Yea, I said it! And when the wife brings home 22-pieces of HD-Content, who can blame me??

I still have 30+ HD-DVDs. As long as my LG dual format player keeps playing them, I'll keep them. After the LG dies, I will probably rip them to my PC using my X-Box HD-DVD drive and transcode/burn to bluray

That's an excellent idea! I've been wanting a media server and that could be the solution for if the Toshiba decides to belly up on me!

I purchased my toshiba from Sam's club on closeout. I got it for $40 after the format war was decided. I didnt purchase any movies for it. I basically use it is a DVD player. I honestly thought that HD-DVD was the going to be the winner. Shows what I know.

Bill, curious, I have the HD-DVD MS drive that I was thinking along the same line as you, is it a matter of plug and play or do I need additional software to rip?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    Shoulda, woulda....didn't! LOL!
In all seriousness, Blu-ray is proof that you really can throw enough money at a problem and win! :D

I wish HD DVD would have won. I still prefer it over Blu-Ray.

The drive just plugs into the computer. To rip, you need something like DVD Fab HD Decrypter, which is free :)

The transcoding and burning to blu is quite a bit more intensive, but if you just want to play them on a PC, there are a number of softwares that will playback the files from the PC.

Now that I have BD, me and my wife were watching a BD movie and then immediately popped in an HD-DVD and she said: I still think HD-DVD looks better! :D
I tried to explain 1080p, digital transfer, etc. It didn't matter to her. :p I'm just glad I have a wife who takes interest in that sort of thing!!!

In many cases, the HD-DVD did/still does look better. Many of the studios have gone overboard applying edge enhancement or noise reduction on the Bluray products. There is a guy at AVS forum (name: Xylon) who does screen grabs and compares them. Often the HD-DVD image has more detail.

Of course, many times the Blu version has TrueHD or Lossless PCM where the HD-DVD only had DD+.

I still have a HD DVD player and some movies, but I haven't used it in over a year.. i can't see any reason to keep it or any real good reason to get rid of it.

maybe i'm just praying that BD will die and people will see the light that HD DVD really was the better format. ;)

I have 3 HD DvD players. I started with one (guessing wrong on the format war) and then picked up another 2 from the Flea Market. Pretty decent upscalers at a really good price.

1 is in the HT. The other 2 are in bedrooms (Guest and Master) as upscalers

I don't buy anymore of the movies unless I can get them cheap. Since I'm not getting rid of my standard DvD collection anytime soon, and see no need yet to put blu-ray in the bedrooms yet, they are working out just fine for me.

I bought my Toshiba player after Blu-ray won...as a decent DVD upconverter and then started to collect some HD-DVDs because of the price drops. You really can't lose with this even if you have a Blu-ray? A lot of HD discs are still floating around!

i never did drop coin on the xa2. all i have is the next best a35. i ALMOST bought the "high end" onkyo/integra hd dvd player that was sold in our flea market after the war ended.

anyway, i have the a35 and an a2 for backup. hope they last awhile. i have at least 30 hd dvds. i would have purchased more, but i'm not one to buy a movie unless it's one i'll lake, high def or not. i remember when most of us (on avs.com) would purchase any hd dvd because it was so scarce. toward the end all they put out were crap movies.

i still do wish they won though. if for no other reason, to stick it to sony.

XA2 on deck with quite a few HD DVDs. Like the OP I wish the format was still alive and kicking. I still think the quality of HD DVD still blows BD out of the water on quite a few titles.
