Dropped serious dough on bedroom furniture tonight

Had to find furniture to match the solid mahogany night stands my dad built for me a few years back. It's freakin' impossible to do for a reasonable price anymore.

Anyway, dropped almost four large on some furniture that is a similar finish, a classic or traditional cherry finish. The furniture is cherry but finished dark. Matches the mahogany quite well. I'm pretty pleased! It'll be a good fit and shouldn't be too obvious in the mismatch.

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the little lady likes it - that is HER room in this house (and I'm fine with that).

As far as color, I don't like everything matchy matchy, ala rooms to go or whatever. I think color variations, interesting peices (like your nightstands from pops) give a room character and really it make it yours.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Got stuff from Cresent: http://www.cresent.com/

    The Murray Hill Collection: http://www.cresent.com/murrayhill.aspx

It's solid wood and the only thing I don't like about it is the brushed nickel hardware. But Van Dykes has polished solid brass hardware to match what is on the night stands and looks better IMO. So I'll spend another few hundred and replace the pulls. There's 20 of them.

    http://www.vandykes.com/

    I got this dresser: http://www.cresent.com/9980.aspx

    9980i.jpg

    With this mirror: http://www.cresent.com/9981tm.aspx

    9981tmi.jpg

    This chest: http://www.cresent.com/9983.aspx

    9983i.jpg

    and this bed frame: http://www.cresent.com/9997.aspx

    9997i.jpg

It's all solid wood construction. Only plywood is on the backing, drawer bottoms and dustproofing panels. All drawers are fitted and all joints dovetailed. The drawers are solid ash. The tops and panels seem to be solid cherry while the facings, frame and trim work look like mahogany. The drawer fronts are on poplar backing panels which are secured to the ash drawers. Likely to eliminate the need for **** in to the finish panel. The bed is hard to tell because it's finished inside and out, there's no bare wood like I've seen in cheaper examples from other companies. I do know that the large panels on the headboard are a cherry veneer because I can see the fine grain in certain light reflections but the frame itself has the muddy and deep grain pattern of mahogany. Anyway, whatever kind of wood it is, they are very well built for a mass market product and the only way I can match the finish on the night stands better is if my dad builds me an entire bedroom set. I was very impressed with the overall quality of these products.

It's not high end furniture by any means. I could have spent 3 times what I did on stuff from like Neiman Marcus or another crazy expensive department store and such. The stuff I did get was on the floor for five G's. They were clearing it out to make room for the new Berry Hill from Cresent. So they cut me a deal and dropped almost 2 grand off of the price. I made 1/4 of that up in taxes and delivery and such but I still think I made out pretty good.

I did this last year when I moved in the new house. Prior to this in the bedroom I had a bed on a frame and chest someone gave me 10 years ago. It was fun to do even though I had this sick feeling over spending that much for non-audio related expenses.

On the other hand it made me realize how much stuff you can get for the price of a great pre-amp...

    Congrats! Looks great.

I'm a coordinator for a delivery company and my account delivers for Crate & Barrel. I have experience with the vendor for that furniture. That is very good stuff you have there. They are definitely one of the best that we deal with as far as quality of work and should last a very long time.

Oh, the furnitures are in the internet!! That's awesome and cool. I looked everywhere for them except in the internet, but all I found was a "no good war".

    Silly me.

Oh BTW Jstas, that is pretty nice furniture man. Love the dark wood look!

Congrats! That looks really nice. One day my stuff WON'T come from Ikea!

I used to sell furniture. It was always interesting to me that folks will spend MUCH more on bedroom furniture (that "generally" isn't displayed to visitors), while cheaping out on the couch that virtually everyone who visits will see and use - just my random observation. (That's not to say that you cheaped out on your couch. I'm sure you didn't.) ;)

    nice stuff!

have to agree, when I graduated college I thought it was time to buy a new bed and a set of something to have and couldn't beleive how much (even just the bed) would cost.

Its nutty, but when I figure that I'll spending a lot of time in it durning my life, it becomes easier for me to take. But like a dresser, that was harder for me to take as all its doing is holding my clothes, but I guess we have to move away from clear plastic bins some day! ;)

I learned a long time ago not to cheap out on furniture. Good stuff will a lifetime, or until you don't like the style anymore, whichever comes first.
