I did not see anything like HDMI-to-Component convertor on the market. And you do not really ned it, since most (if not all) BluRay players have component output. The problem is that you can not get full resolution via component, so the picture will be better that DVD, but not as good as is connected via HDMI.
Since you can find BD player nowadays for about $150,

it's more the audio than the video that is hampered with component. No HD sound with component.

Good film, for the first 20 minutes, then boredom sets in. Just not enough here for repeat viewings anymore. I've seen it enough. I'll will rent it once though just for the lossless audio track it will get.

I must have watched a different movie because the scene with them wanting to shoot the German soldier after taking him prisoner, the unforgettable hand to hand combat scene and the Alamo kept me on the edge of my seat. The hand to hand combat scene in that house has to be one of the most intense I have ever witnessed. Now I have to buy the BD version.:D

I am on the fence on this. I have the commemorative boxset and DD versions.

do let us know who has it though, if it's as good as Avatar (PQ wise), then I *might*.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Saving Pvt Ryan, like Schindler's list is an important film for history. But for me, it's too arduous to sit through repeatedly. I can appreciate the new lossless format, but it's not the type of movie I like watching many times.

I got an email yesterday that mine shipped.... I am pretty disappointed with the fact that I can go to Best Buy right now and buy it cheaper though, I thought that their price guarantee was better than it actually is. Lesson learned :)

Watched SPR on BD last night, OMG the audio on this disc absolutely incredible. By far the best sounding disc in my collection and I do mean BY FAR. If your on the fence about this one you should go to Best buy plop down your 20 bucks and pick this up on reference audio alone not to mention its one of the best movies ever.

damn you! I was at BB last night and teetered on buying SPR on BD.. but walked out and ended up not buying it.. now I have to put on my pants and drive down there again just because the reviews are so good about the audio ;):p

    for $20 it's a no brainer anyways. :D

I feel the same way. However, if it's on TV, I seem to lose the ability to change the channel.

I guess I'll pick up a copy down the road when it's $10 just to add to the collection.

Btw guys, is the PQ style on SPR BD grainy-ish, sorta like "We Were Soldiers" HD-DVD if you are familiar with that?

Yes, thank God. D.P. Janusz Kaminski used skip bleaching on the film to give it a heavily contrasted and grainy look with blown out whites, and the Blu-ray represents that look perfectly. It's supposed to look like old Ektachrome war films... and it looks absolutely stunning.

And millerman's right: The audio on this disc is drool-worthy. I don't even remember my much-lauded DTS DVD version of this sounding so cohesive. The DTS DVD had a different mix than the DD version, so I wonder which they used for the Blu-ray... but either way, Gary Rydstrom's sound design comes through brilliantly. I seriously hate that he quit doing sound to work at Pixar, 'cause he put out some of the best surround mixes in cinema history, in my opinion.

Braveheart's a fantastic Blu-ray... and I have to admit that I'm curious how the Tron Blu-ray is going to look come November. Can't imagine them cleaning that movie up much considering... but hey, I could be wrong.

    I forgot to mention Bladerunner.

According to Disney, the Tron cleanup will be color correction, sound...but they are not going to re-cgi anything.
