What's Your "Hottest" Album?

You know, where the engineers have squeezed out all the dynamics of the cuts in favor of volume, volume, VOLUME!

My hottest album has to be - & it's the hands down winner - "Rockferry," by Duffy. I can't believe how loud this album is! I like my music loud, but have to turn the volume down, way down, to even listen to this album. You can even hear the lead singer's voice distorting on several tracks.

What a shame!

So, what's your "hottest" album?

Any of the re-mastered (stereo) Genesis albums in the Gabriel-era boxed set (1970-1975) have been remixed and completely sucked dry of dynamics.

Also, the "mini-LP" YES CDs that came out about 7-8 years ago were mastered extremely loud. Almost to the point of clipping. I cannot stand when people do such idiotic things, they (the people who master the CD) destroy the listening pleasure you get from the album because you are too worried about it clipping and/or lose the loud and soft parts of the album so it just sounds flat and lifeless. What a shame....... I'll have to think about which one I have that is "THE HOTTEST" though. Sorry for the rant.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I have both cd and LP and both are frustratingly "hot". I hope maybe Steve Hoffman or someone will give remastering a go sometime soon. I love the music and it's great in the IROC-Z where the car itself is so noisy I don't care much about SQ but on my home rig the cd sucks bad so I bought the LP and it was hideously loud and lacking as well.

Huh! I don't know why I hear what you don't, Tool, and I wish I didn't! But it's there, bigger 'n life. & I can't believe how much I have to turn the volume down. Do you need to do that?

Wow. Bummed to see so many EC albums are hot. I've got "Me & Mr. Johnson" & it's an excellent album & well recorded too. If you don't have it, I highly recommend it.

Horrible, compressed recording; worst I've ever heard. I LOVE the music, though...

    GWAR - Hello

+1 on that. GWAR was one of the funnest concerts I've ever been to. ;)

White Stripes - Icky Thump. I've only recently been giving it the time it deserves and wow it just begs to be played loud!

Yes, I agree with you on the B,S,S,M album. Californication is terrible as well.

Love the music, but I can't stand to listen to it anymore!
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I have to respectfully disagree with you on BSSM. I haven't heard the LP because I don't do the tt thing, but I find the CD to be of excellent sound quality. Doesn't sound hot at all to me. In fact, just perfect....maybe it just sounds different on different systems.

Californication, on the other hand, I've heard from others is piping hot. I never bought it because I didn't like the Chili's musical direction after One Hot Minute, but I have heard from others that Californication is one of the worst offenders in the overly compressed loudness wars.
